A big shout out to @WordUpBooks for inviting me to sign copies of A FAMILY LOOKS LIKE LOVE over the weekend! Full disclosure: I signed so many that muscle memory took over and some of my cursive letters morphed into something new.🙈 Anyway, happy book birthday to me! 🎉🧁📚

8-year old Dasha Ramirez was playing with her brother at Millennium Park when Border Patrol took them. They’re now awaiting deportation to Guatemala. “We never imagined our Sunday would end this way, mother Noemi Chavez said. chicagotribune.com/2025/09/2…
It's hard to believe that this time last year I took my first steps in seven months. I was hospitalized with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome and on the waiting list for a double lung transplant. Being on ECMO lift support for so many months left me with weakened muscles...
...and deconditioning to the point where I had to relearn how to walk and feed myself again. These steps occurred days after my stroke. My physical and occupational therapists helped me achieve this monstrous feat. #OrganDonation #health #medicalmiracle #ScienceMatters
Tom's mother said part of his liver went to Fatima, now 12, while his heart went to a 60-year-old man, Gordon, who is now 70."
"It was surreal. I stood by two people who are alive because of Tom - and Tom's heart was beating next to me," she said.

Organ donation saves lives. An important op-ed from @KaitWells usatoday.com/story/opinion/v…
Since news broke that an organ transplant hospital rushed to secure organs from patients who were still alive, Donate Life America has seen a 700% increase in donor registration withdrawals.
Here's my @USATODAY op-ed on why that's the wrong move:

Thanks to everyone for their patience regarding my responses. I've been hospitalized since March. I had a stroke and a double lung transplant surgery due to advance respiratory disease. gofundme.com/f/support-kaitl…

Last summer, a swim instructor told @aarickawash that "African Americans can't float." Today, she's changing the narrative for the better. For the (BAD) ATTITUDE newsletter, we discussed why she never stopped learning to swim, and the link between power and vulnerability.
"Swimming is one of those sports, those life things, that can kill you," @aarickawash said. "This stuff can kill me. I just decided to do it anyway." kaitwells.substack.com/p/aar…

Spent all day writing. Took a brief dinner/baby/mindless tv break. Just spent the last two hours trying to write more. But my brain is mush. I made great progress this afternoon. It wasn’t nearly enough. This book deadline is coming up quick!
Why on earth am I just now receiving a medical bill for services from January 2023? JANUARY 2023. There should be a cutoff period for this stuff. It’s getting ridiculous with what the healthcare and insurance industries charge folks.
