I mean the committee for the oscars has openly stated they don't watch a lot of the movies they vote for so unfortunately this happens there too

Not a JRPG, but Card-En-Ciel combines a JRPG combat vibe with the feeling of Yugioh at its wildest engine-wise (e.g., Metaphys, Zoo, Fire King, Exodia draw, etc.). It's a bit goonerish in presentation, but eh, it's gameplay heavy.
SMT VV if you want to have exploration on par with ER, along with the ability to buildcraft to take on open world bosses at big level gaps.
Devil Survivor if you really want your time respected. No exploration in the sense of walking around, but you play through 7 days with various events being available, including side quests and secret bosses. If you play well, you only need to interact with major content, and it has enough routes and potential builds to run through multiple times.
And, Soul Hackers 2 on Very Hard (free DLC to unlock the difficulty). The dungeons aren't great besides the Soul Matrix mazes, and story depends on how into anime you are. However, on Very Hard, SH2 is probably the most challenging while fair (no cheap deaths or stat checks) JRPG to date.
I was avoiding emulation (though Devil Survivor can't go unmentioned), but Radiant Historia is great too. It's a spiritual successor to Chrono Trigger in ways. Time travel is core to the narrative/progression, and it has a very tactical battle system that wouldn't be served by words, but it'd be very quick to start it up and know why if you can emulate.

Me and you deciding we can be designers at Intelligent Systems
I like a lot about JRPGs but I cant deal with aggressive random encounters and grinding. Easily the least fun things to do in video games. Idk many JRPGs that feel like Chrono Trigger. That game respects my time.
Lot of Reformed Gamers ™️ in my replies and that’s great! You guys deserve to log in for old times sake haha! Just one more raid come on one more gacha roll! You’re better now this is celebrating it doesn’t count! This is where you pull that legendary sword or anime girl for sure
Whenever you hear about video games ruining people’s lives its almost always MMOs right? You never hear about people wasting away because of Mario Party
This is pretty much based on my Spotify most listened to all time lmao. I’ll try one with more genres another day. Music was WAY harder tho than movies or video games
5 minutes of thought max these are the goat animated movies. Most of the list would probably be ghibli if i didn’t try lmfao

Wood working, Metal work and almost every type of exercise. Most hobbies are meant to be creative, not to be fun. Video game are an exception.
He’s right. It’s the same energy people who are “just doing it for fun” have about any hobby or interest. It comes off as insecurity.
“Im just doing this for fun” yeah bro its a fucking video game that’s usually the general idea
