The Trump administration is preparing to deport at least 150 Afghans over the next 48 hours, first to Pakistan and then to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.
Many of those facing deportation are relatives of those who worked alongside the United States. They could face severe retaliation from the Taliban upon their return.

Five years ago, Americans watched Afghans cling to planes to escape the Taliban.
On Monday, our government plans to charter one back, carrying ~150 Afghans from Louisiana to Pakistan, which would expel them into Afghanistan.

Trump Is Throwing America's Allies Under the Bus. The World Is Watching.
The Trump administration's reported plan to deport more than 150 Afghans
,including relatives of people who served alongside U.S. forces, betrays America's commitments and undermines its credibility around the world.
This is about more than immigration. It is about trust, loyalty, and leadership. Despite the Taliban's proclaimed general amnesty, former Afghan security personnel and Republic officials have faced killings, torture, and arbitrary detention. UNAMA documented at least 800 violations, including 218 extrajudicial killings, between August 2021 and June 2023.
More than five years later, where is the accountability? How many perpetrators have been brought before a court of law? NOT EVEN ONE.
Trump speaks of American strength and leadership. Yet his policies risk sending the opposite message to allies worldwide: America's promises are conditional, its commitments temporary, and its partners expendable.
How can Washington expect future partners to risk their lives for America when those who did so in Afghanistan now face possible deportation into the hands of their former persecutors? America has the right to enforce its immigration laws, but not to disregard its obligations to people facing credible threats of persecution.
Great powers do not lose credibility only by losing wars. They also lose it by abandoning those who stood beside them.
That is not strength. It is a failure of leadership.

We have a loved one scheduled to be on this deportation flight to Afghanistan. He will be killed if he’s returned to the Taliban. He supported the US mission in Afghanistan. He has broken no laws. He came here legally. Seeking asylum should not be a death sentence.
Please help us stop this flight!!!
As soon as Monday, the U.S. plans to fly 150+ Afghans from Louisiana to Pakistan and on to Afghanistan. Many are relatives of those who served with our troops.
Call and write Congress and the White House today. Stop this flight.

We know people on this flight. They are good people, not criminals. No one deserves what awaits them if they are forcibly returned to Afghanistan. Please help us stop this flight! Seeking asylum should not be a death sentence!

BREAKING: Trump admin lays groundwork for mass deportation of resettled refugees with new regulation.
"This regulation represents another escalation against immigrants with lawful status and these tactics lay the groundwork for the mass de-documentation and deportation of refugees. IRAP calls on USCIS to rescind the rule immediately and for Congress to exercise its authority to prevent this injustice from being carried out.”

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.
NEW: The 4th Circuit denied Trump admin's request to apply the travel ban to asylee family members.
“We are overjoyed that asylees will continue to be able to reunite with their families in safety in the U.S. as a result of this decision.”
