30 year pilot here. Texting her boyfriend had no bearing on her job at all. She was the copilot and doing her job well- running the communications with ATC- The 55 yo Captain/pilot chose the route and altitude which sealed their fate. She realized the tail section was gone from ice, stall, overspeed and she was riding a lawn dart to the ground at 600mph and nothing she could do about it and informed the captain.
