In Kigali if MTN mobile money is not working, the economy stops; people forgot how to carry cash. It is now essential to have Airtel money also. Meanwhile, Rwandans are relatively good trust people. Strangers accept to give a service & you pay later. Kudos to motos & taximen.

As we approach the end of the year, I want to share one of the most unforgettable experiences from this past year in the beautiful country of Rwanda. I was invited by the Government of Rwanda, as an Arsenal ambassador, to witness the country’s remarkable work in environmental preservation especially the protection of its ecosystems and the reintroduction of gorilla families. From the very beginning, the dedication of local communities stood out, turning tourism into a sustainable, locally driven economy. Rwanda’s leadership in addressing climate change left a strong impression on me. Monthly community waste-collection days practised not only in Kigali but also across rural areas, show how collective action can create meaningful change. It’s an approach many countries could learn from. 🌱 I had the honour of meeting President @PaulKagame to discuss Rwanda’s long-term sustainability strategy, and I was also invited to take part in the incredible yearly naming ceremony of a newborn baby gorilla, a cultural moment that reflects the country’s conservation achievements. The encounter that will stay with me the longest was spending a day with Rambo’s gorilla family, just a meter and a half from a silverback. It was a calm, powerful reminder of our place in nature and our responsibility to protect it. 🦍 What moved me most was Rwanda’s spirit. A nation that has faced immense hardship now stands as a testament to resilience and unity. The warmth and openness of its people left me with a quiet but lasting sense of hope and a belief that renewal is not only possible, but already happening. I want to thank the President of Rwanda, @Arsenal Football Club and Oorwanda for making this journey possible, and above all, the people of Rwanda who made me feel at home. Rwanda will forever hold a place in my heart. ❤️ 🤍

A businessman recently joked that in Rwanda today, it’s easier to borrow a smile than a bank loan because the moment you sign the papers, you start counting losses instead of profits. His story captures a harsh reality. Imagine a trader who borrows Frw 25 million to expand his business. By the time he finishes paying the loan in four years, he ends up returning nearly Frw 49 million almost double what he borrowed. With such heavy interest, it’s no surprise that many entrepreneurs feel like they are working for the banks, not for themselves. According to the @CentralBankRw , as of June 2025, the country’s 11 major banks held total assets of Frw 9.6 trillion, a 22.5% increase from the previous year. These institutions control roughly two-thirds of Rwanda’s financial system, proving their immense strength and influence. Yet, while banks continue to grow richer, many small and medium enterprises especially in trade, manufacturing, and hospitality are struggling under the weight of expensive loans. This imbalance poses a real threat to the government’s ambition of creating 250,000 jobs per year for the next four years. Sustainable growth requires more than profitable banks; it demands financial systems that allow businesses to breathe, grow, and employ. @RwandaFinance @RwandaTrade @AFRwanda
𝗥𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮’𝘀 𝟭𝟭 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗙𝗿𝘄 𝟵.𝟲 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲 ✅Just 11 banks are quietly driving the engine of Rwanda’s economy. As of June 2025, these institutions held total assets worth Frw 9.6 trillion, according to data from the @CentralBankRw ✅Together, they account for 67.4 percent of all regulated financial assets, meaning the banking sector controls roughly two-thirds of the country’s financial system and remains central to Rwanda’s financial stability and growth. ✅At the core of this expansion are Rwanda’s nine commercial banks: I&M Bank Rwanda Plc, Bank of Kigali Plc, BPR Bank Rwanda Plc, GT Bank Plc, Ecobank Rwanda Plc, Access Bank Rwanda Plc, Equity Bank Rwanda Plc, BOA Rwanda Plc, and NCBA Rwanda Plc. Combined, they manage assets valued at Frw 7.7 trillion. ✅Rwanda’s banks have strengthened their financial foundations. Liquidity positions improved significantly, with cash holdings up by 48.1 percent, balances in other banks rising by 39.8 percent, and reserves at the National Bank of Rwanda increasing by 30.4 percent. ✅The banking sector is also benefiting from improved monetary conditions. Following recent reductions in the Central Bank Rate, the weighted average lending rate dropped by 37 basis points to 15.93 percent, making credit more affordable for businesses and households. ✅These 11 institutions are shaping Rwanda’s financial landscape and powering its ambition for sustained and inclusive growth. en.igihe.com/business-62/art…

Bravo #Rwanda Bravo @PaulKagame Mwarakoze #Banyarwanda Kuduza ishusho ya Afrika. #Turikumwe
