The 1986 Spanish Grand Prix was the first to be held at the all-new Circuito de Jerez.
This race featured the third-closest finish in F1 history as Ayrton Senna, in the Lotus 98T, won by just 0.014 seconds from Nigel Mansell and the Williams FW11 in P2. Alain Prost finished P3 in the McLaren MP4/2C. #F1

His life was tragically cut short at just 28 in the 1959 plane crash that also claimed Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens.
Sadly, the tragedy is often remembered more than the man and his music.
Today, letβs celebrate the larger-than-life personality who gave us this rock βnβ roll classic!

Today, we remember the birth of former F1 driver Alex Zanardi. Born #OnThisDay 23 October 1966, he was known for his larger-than-life personality. Zanardi debuted with Jordan in 1991, then served as a Benetton test driver before racing two seasons with Lotus. He found great success in CART, winning titles in 1997 and 1998.
A return to F1 with Williams in 1999 ended in disappointment with no points. In 2001, Zanardi lost both legs in a horrific crash during an IndyCar race in Germany, but he defied the odds, walking again and even winning a touring car race in a specially adapted car.
Sadly, he passed away on 1 May 2026, agedΒ 59.
