A Learjet 60 at 35,000 ft reported light clear ice & turbulence, then dropped out of the sky in under 2 minutes near Palm Beach, killing all 9. NTSB found the left elevator in pieces 1.3–3.8 miles away—parts came off before impact. Storm updrafts can deliver supercooled water high up, forming clear ice that runs back past de-ice systems, cuts lift, raises stall speed, and erases the already-narrow “coffin corner” margins on a heavy jet. Small bizjet radar often misses fast-building cells until it’s too late. Stall warning is set for a clean wing, so the first clue can just be the airplane sinking.
