🇲🇸🌍 On 1 June each year, we mark Overseas Territories Day, recognising the people, cultures, communities and contributions of the UK Overseas Territories. This year’s commemorative activities, led by @UKOTAssociation, included a reception at the House of Commons, kindly hosted by Mr Speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle. Attendees heard remarks from Mr Speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the Minister for the Overseas Territories, Stephen Doughty MP, James Cleverly MP, and the Hon. David Burt, Premier of Bermuda and current President of UKOTA. The programme also included a special Evensong Service at Westminster Abbey, where prayers were offered for the leaders and people of the UK Overseas Territories. Montserrat was particularly proud to see young Montserratian Josiah Persaud representing the island through a steel pan performance at the House of Commons reception, sharing an important part of our Caribbean culture with guests from across Parliament, Government and the Overseas Territories. A two-week exhibition is also currently on display in Portcullis House, showcasing the diversity, heritage, culture, environment and achievements of the Territories. Those visiting Westminster are encouraged to take the opportunity to view the exhibition and learn more about the unique stories and contributions of the UK Overseas Territories. Montserrat’s flag raised in the House of Commons 🇲🇸 In the presence of Mr Speaker, we marked St Patrick’s Day and commemorated the 1768 rebellion, a defining moment in Montserrat’s history. Bringing together the diaspora and friends of Montserrat, the ceremony reflected the strength of our culture, from masquerade to poetry to song.

Congratulations to Kimberley Durrant on her election as Chair of the United Kingdom Overseas Territories Association (UKOTA). Ms Durrant, Bermuda’s UK Representative and Director of the Bermuda London Office, will now lead the official advocacy body representing the UK’s Overseas Territories in London. In accordance with UKOTA’s constitution, the Premier, the Hon. E. David Burt, JP, MP, will serve as President of the Political Council.
