Robert Jenrick schooled the BBC this morning. Not for the first time, and certainly not for the last. Reform's message is simple, Britain should reward hard work, cut unnecessary spending and stop treating the welfare system as a bottomless pit of money. If you come to Britain legally but refuse to contribute, why should British taxpayers be expected to fund your lifestyle? Coming to Britain is a privilege. An opportunity to work hard, create wealth and build a better life. Not an invitation to live indefinitely off the generosity of the British taxpayer. Britain needs a welfare system that rewards contribution, not dependency.

Eric Hoffer wrote this article about Israel almost 60 years go. It reads like it was written yesterday. "The Jews are a peculiar people: things permitted to other nations are forbidden to the Jews. Other nations drive out thousands, even millions of people and there is no refugee problem. Russia did it, Poland and Czechoslovakia did it, Turkey threw out a million Greeks, and Algeria a million Frenchmen. Indonesia threw out heaven knows how many Chinese-and no one says a word about refugees. But in the case of Israel the displaced Arabs have become eternal refugees. Everyone insists that Israel must take back every single Arab. Arnold Toynbee calls the displacement of the Arabs an atrocity greater than any committed by the Nazis. Other nations when victorious on the battlefield dictate peace terms. But when Israel is victorious it must sue for peace. Everyone expects the Jews to be the only real Christians in this world. Other nations when they are defeated survive and recover but should Israel be defeated it would be destroyed. Had Nasser triumphed last June he would have wiped Israel off the map, and no one would have lifted a finger to save the Jews. No commitment to the Jews by any government, including our own, is worth the paper it is written on. There is a cry of outrage all over the world when people die in Vietnam or when two Negroes are executed in Rhodesia. But when Hitler slaughtered Jews no one remonstrated with him. The Swedes, who are ready to break of diplomatic relations with America because of what we do in Vietnam, did not let out a peep when Hitler was slaughtering Jews. They sent Hitler choice iron ore, and ball bearings, and serviced his troop trains to Norway. The Jews are alone in the world. If Israel survives, it will be solely because of Jewish efforts. And Jewish resources. Yet at this moment Israel is our only reliable and unconditional ally. We can rely more on Israel than Israel can rely on us. And one has only to imagine what would have happened last summer had the Arabs and their Russian backers won the war to realize how vital the survival of Israel is to America and the West in general. I have a premonition that will not leave me; as it goes with Israel so will it go with all of us. Should Israel perish the holocaust will be upon us."

On this day—October 25, 1929 The Shaw Commission arrived in Jerusalem to investigate Arab massacres of Jews across Mandate Palestine. This was two decades before Israel’s independence. Arabs had killed 133 Jews brutally with axes, knives, and clubs in places like Jerusalem, Hebron, and Safed. Homes were looted, synagogues were destroyed, and survivors were raped and mutilated. The massacres were ongoing. There were another 57 Arab attacks against Jews as the Commission sat. The Grand Mufti later invoked the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and compared himself to Jesus, claiming Jews had denounced him. The Commission found the Arab attacks on Jews were driven by hostility to Jews in general and the notion of Jewish sovereignty anywhere in the Land. This was the conclusion before there were any ā€œsettlements,ā€ ā€œoccupation,ā€ or even a State of Israel.

What Israel did in Gaza may well go down in history as the most humane and precise urban warfare environment the world has ever known—the very opposite of genocide. The entire purpose of a genocide is to push civilians into the killing zone. Think about what happened in the Holocaust, where children in line at Auschwitz were given bars of soap, where inside of the gas chambers there were fake shower heads. What was the point? It was to trick and induce civilians to get in to the killing zone so that you could kill more of them more efficiently over time. Israel has done the very opposite—warning civilians and then manning humanitarian corridors with its own soldiers, risking its own sons’ and daughters’ lives to ensure that civilians get out of the killing zone. We see two remarkable things in Gaza. First, according to preeminent urban warfare scholars like John Spencer, Richard Kemp, and Andrew Fox, Israel has the lowest militant-to-civilian kill ratio in the history of urban warfare. Genocides have extreme civilian-to-militant kill ratios. Hundred, thousand, ten thousand-to-one. That’s the point of a genocide. Here we have a militant-to-civilian kill ratio of may be two-to-one—not consistent not just with law of war violations—but much less with genocide. Second, and more importantly, all genocidal regimes get better over time at killing civilians. Again, think about the Holocaust. The Nazis started with firing squads killing 20, 30, 50 people at a time and realized that was too inefficient. Then they got these vans and filled them with exhaust pipes, and they would kill more people. And they said, ā€œWe’re never going to get to six million killing them this way.ā€ That led them to construct these massive gas chambers and crematoria—the architecture of true genocide—to kill thousands and thousands of people cheaply and efficiently a day. Israel has done the opposite. Even if you believe Hamas’ numbers, the scale of civilian death in Gaza went down over time. Israel got better and better and spent hundreds of millions of shekels learning how to become more efficient at preserving innocent Palestinians’ lives. Again, the very opposite of genocide.

No big headline for this šŸ‘‡ Labour fined Ā£14,250. Reform fined Ā£2,187. Guess which one the left-wing press shouted about? In 2023 Labour was fined Ā£14,250 by the Electoral Commission for failing to declare donations properly. 20 separate breaches. Big money, real reporting failures. No big headlines on The London Economic. No pile-on. This week Reform was fined Ā£1,750 for missing small print on three social media pages and an advert. Paid it a month late so it went to Ā£2,187. That's it. Admin. But that one is everywhere. Screenshots, outrage, "Reform in trouble." Same regulator. Same type of mistake. One fine seven times bigger than the other. Only one gets turned into a scandal - and it's the one for Farage. Tell you everything you need to know about the left-wing press. 🤦

The West Bank was under Jordanian rule from 1948 to 1967. Its Arab residents were Jordanian citizens with parliamentary representation. No independent Palestinian state was created during those 19 years, and that history is routinely ignored. So is the broader pattern of Arab supremacism across the Middle East and the long record of antisemitism that drove the flight and expulsion of roughly 800,000 Jews from Arab countries in the Middle East and North Africa. If Arabs do not have a state today, it is the direct result of their own decisions and behaviors since 1947. Israel does not owe them anything. Israel was founded in 1948 in large part by Jews expelled or driven from their homes in the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe. It has succeeded economically, technologically, and in national security, while Arab nationalism largely failed to deliver comparable prosperity. That success does not make Israel an apartheid state. Calling Israel an apartheid state when nearly 20% of its population consists of Muslim Arabs with citizenship and political rights, while no Arab country offers even basic inclusiveness to Jews, simply repeats Islamic Republic narratives. It exposes regime agents within the Western academy.
Little is comparable in the two situations. Turkey has helped establish a democratic republic in Northern Cyprus run by the local population. Israel refuses to give any rights to the population of occupied territories and runs apartheid policies there

The genocide accusation requires proof of special intent. If Israel intended to destroy Palestinians as such why has it left Ramallah untouched and >98% of Gazan civilians alive after years of war vs Hamas? Invoking that genocide can mean "in part" does not answer the question.

Silent footage from @AP in 1956 just after Israeli forces drove Egypt out. Captions says: "Refugee camps near GAZA, where the Egyptian kept the Palestinian refugees in primitive dwellings, not permitting them to go to Egypt or mingle with their countryfolk. Fed and clothed thanks to the International Organization for the refugees, the Egyptians used these people as political hostages. While Cairo affirmed that Gaza territory sheltered 300.000 Arab refugees, right after occupation they were numbered at 200.000. In front of their huts decorated with white flags, they warmly receive the Israeli soldiers, saying that the Egyptians were very haughty towards and did not treat them well."

The most effective weapon against Israel has been redefining words until self-defense becomes the crime. ā€œGenocideā€ once meant the deliberate attempt to destroy a people. Hamas wrote that goal into its charter, yet the army fighting it is the one called genocidal. ā€œApartheid,ā€ ā€œcolonialism,ā€ ā€œoccupationā€ā€”same method. Change the meaning and repeat the new one so many times it becomes gospel. The only real "offense" to those fighting linguistic warfare is the very existence of the world's only Jewish state.

How on earth can Britain's National Security Adviser be appointed before completing security vetting? Jonathan Powell is advising the Prime Minister on some of the most sensitive national security matters imaginable. Yet his appointment reportedly came before the necessary vetting. First the Peter Mandelson scandal. Now serious questions over Jonathan Powell. How many more failures in Labour's vetting process are going to emerge? National security should never be an afterthought.
🚨 National Security Advisor Jonathan Powell WAS NOT VETTED before getting the job - Telegraph. What on earth is going on in our country?

This is the scandal that just keeps giving. It has emerged that national security adviser Jonathan Powell, who sits at the centre of Britain’s most sensitive intelligence and diplomatic secrets, and who happens to be married to a Gaza fanatic who has defended Hamas, was not vetted by security before he was handed the job. The source is Morgan McSweeney, Keir Starmer’s former chief of staff, in evidence to Parliament about Peter Mandelson that came to light this week. ā€œWe made a political appointment for National Security Adviser, in Jonathan Powell,ā€ he remarked, offhand. ā€œAs far as I remember, we appointed him and then we began the DV.ā€ DV stands for developed vetting, the highest routine level of security clearance. Any clearance Powell held from his days as Tony Blair’s chief of staff would have lapsed long ago; the rules require a review after seven years, and he left Downing Street in 2007. In other words, the government put a man in charge of national security first and determined that he wasn’t a security risk afterwards, just as it did with Peter Mandelson (and look how that turned out). This is more than a procedural lapse. It is a window into how this government works: a combination of cronyism and complacency which, step by step, has allowed ideological zealotry to seep into the heart of our foreign policy. And when you look at what the vetting officers would have found had they been allowed to do their job first, it becomes clear why this matters so much... New post. Link in first reply
