If you are interested in the effects of media/tech on human development, democracy, and society, you must follow my NYU colleague @jayvanbavel. High quality research summaries and interpretation:
If you’ve had a sneaking suspicion that your algorithm is feeding you content specifically designed to enrage you, you might be onto something. Social media algorithms reward moral outrage, giving extreme voices more visibility than they might otherwise have and distorting our perceptions of what other people actually believe. Meanwhile, AI chatbots are increasingly telling us what we want to hear, reinforcing our existing beliefs, while remote work and digital communication can come at the expense of the everyday interactions that build trust and strengthen relationships. I shares ideas for bringing people together and pushing back against loneliness and isolation in an increasingly digital world. By creating healthier social norms within organizations and encouraging leaders to prioritize meaningful connections with their teams, we can start breaking down the walls that divide us and rediscover the power of us. I discuss this topic and more on the Behavioral Grooves Podcast (and get out and vote today!) bgpodcast.substack.com/p/the…

This is *so* important, and *so, so SO* under-covered.
Replying to @drantbradley
Men can now bet on games while sitting in church during the sermon. Almost no one is talking about it. I’m giving away my ThinkQ slides and raw research notes. Free. Use them. Parents, pastors: silence is not an option. The link: anthonybbradley.substack.com…

I have often regretted opening Twitter. I don't ever recall regret at closing Twitter.

“The Ballad of Wallis Island” is magical. See it.

Get better soon, @TamauPogi - we are all pulling for you.

Let’s see now… I could spend the next 30 minutes on Twitter and wallow in man’s inhumanity to man, or I could do something, you know, productive. See ya.

I’ve never seen airline travel this bad. I’m now surprised when a flight leaves on time. I’d estimate that about a quarter of flights do that now.

Unremarkable writing: the true hallmark of AI.
Gmail has a cool feature that uses AI to suggest cleaner word choices and phrasings so your writing can become truly unremarkable

Just saw #TheBalladOfWallisIsland for the second time in a month. It got even better. I love intimate stories in which the setting is as much a character as the characters.

“And every four years we will care about soccer and get very into it” “Will we start watching soccer?” “We will not”

Why is it ‘cancelled’ in the U.K. but ‘canceled’ in the U.S.? Because we gave them that L in 1776.

Always worth repeating: the original Bourne film trilogy is as close to perfection as you’ll find in action filmmaking.

I find filmmaking the most creative art of all. It combines so many other arts: writing, images, music. One of my great joys after writing a script is storyboarding — turning my words into pictures. It's simultaneously exhausting and exhilarating.

Thinking back to when a new hip joint meant someplace I wanted to go on Friday night.
