Friends and readers: I have cancer.
The type of cancer is not yet fully confirmed, but all signs point toward kidney cancer that has spread to my hips, back, and pleura. On the bright side, all my blood tests so far are normal, suggesting that the cancer is moving slowly, 1/6

BREAKING: The location of Plato’s Cave is reportedly “100% confirmed” after 2,300 years, following the discovery of an astonishing “man-made” hole in the ground containing “suspicious-looking shadows,” per the Daily Mail.

Nice argument. Unfortunately, I've already depicted you as a prisoner looking at shadows on a cave wall and me as a wise man who's come down from the outside to enlighten you.

Sorry man but “philosopher” is a generally correct term for philosophy PhD students
One of those doctrinal distinctions that 1L Criminal Law courses often overlook: What exactly is the difference between Witchcraft in the First Degree and Witchcraft in the Second Degree? (From Hale's Pleas of the Crown, 1682). play.google.com/books/reader…

Freedom of speech is NOT:
• Freedom to promote Kantian ethics with impunity
• Freedom to criticize Hume's philosophy and keep your job
• Freedom to elaborate metaphysical systems without being sent into exile
Freedom of SPEECH is NOT freedom from CONSEQUENCE

I'm not Catholic, but there are things I admire about Catholicism: traditions, liturgy, symbolism, mystery, art, architecture, & the production of some amazing philosophers.
And then the X apologists show up.

Theology 101: The Son is eternally Son of the eternal Father; the Father is eternally Father of the eternal Son. The Son never “became” Son, and the Father never “became” Father. This is eternal generation. There is a historic alternative to this: Arianism.

Not my main hobbyhorse, but perhaps the central problem of Young Earth Creationism (even deeper than the myriad scientific problems) is that is a claim about the character of God. The deity of YEC is fundamentally a trickster god who created a universe we cannot understand. Radioactive decay is lying to us; the light from stars travel pretended journeys from the depths of time; the geology of our own planet has no consistent logic—nothing can be trusted to be intelligible, and even our own epistemological tools are incapable of understanding our world. This might be what Loki or Descartes’ demiurge would have done, but not the God of the Bible who took on human flesh to inhabit and know his own creation. Anyways, just wanted to point that out.

I hate it when people talk about diverse “ways of knowing.” There is only one way of knowing and that is to contemplate the eternal Forms.
