This truth should be an encouragement to parents filling their children with “just sentiments” in this world filled with “false sentiments.”
And if you’re leaving it up to your child’s public school, your child is defenseless.

Modern education claims to be secular. That is, it claims to be neutral, only providing students with the knowledge they need for living in the world but without any religious or philosophical bias. Modern educators claim this is because the religious and philosophical aspects of the student’s life should remain private and not interfere with or influence his public education. This is not only untrue, but absurd. At best, it is impossible. At worst, it is dishonest.

This is the power of a Classical Christian Education! Students who learn HOW to learn, HOW to think, and ENJOY learning will become lifelong learners and can learn any subject with ease. They won’t be stuck in a box, only ever able to do the one or two trades they majored in. The world becomes open to them.

We’re not raising children to download information from us. We’re raising children to think apologetically in the context of their own lives. And what better way to further the Gospel in a dark world than to give them this ability from a young age?

We all know education in America is on a decline, and many people’s answer is to turn to trade school. We think a Classical Christian Education is the better answer.

“By teaching them all to read, we have left them at the mercy of the printed word. By the invention of the film and the radio, we have made certain that no aversion to reading shall secure them from the incessant battery of words, words, words. They do not know what the words mean; they do not know how to ward them off or blunt their edge or fling them back; they are a prey to words in their emotions instead of being the masters of them in their intellects. We who were scandalized in 1940 when men were sent to fight armored tanks with rifles, are not scandalized when young men and women are sent into the world to fight massed propaganda with a smattering of “subjects”; and when whole classes and whole nations become hypnotized by the arts of the spellbinder, we have the impudence to be astonished. We dole out lip-service to the importance of education—lip-service and, just occasionally, a little grant of money; we post-pone the school—leaving age, and plan to build bigger and better schools; the teachers slave conscientiously in and out of school hours; and yet, as I believe, all this devoted effort is largely frustrated, because we have lost the tools of learning, and in their absence can only make a botched and piecemeal job of it.”

If you’ve recently pulled your children from public school to homeschool them, here’s a question to ask yourself:
“Has our shift from public school to homeschool merely been a shift in forms of inundation or a pursuit of true education?”
If you’ve traded Evolutionism for Creationism, but your child can’t discuss the subject from all points of view, it’s inundation.
If you’ve swapped their math from Common Core to Saxon, do they just know more facts or do they understand more about God?
If they’re only reading Christian missionary stories but can’t discuss Plato, they’re being inundated with another philosophy rather than equipped with the ability to think clearly.
If they’re getting better grades in their books, but still behave unreasonably in interaction with siblings and parents, they might be getting better at memorizing truths but those truths aren’t reaching their soul.
A true Classical Christian Education forms the human mind AND soul, equips the person with tools to approach any subject, and prioritizes virtue above facts.
Education beats inundation every time.
