In many ways millennial white men have been sacrificed on the altar for the supposed sins of their fathers and grandfathers. A lot of Gen X too. But the Boomers and older kept their jobs while this went on. To me that’s the scandal. Old white men sacrificing their own.
A statistic that sounds fake but isn't: Not one single white American man born after 1984 has published a work of literary fiction in The New Yorker.
It's not because they stopped writing. It's because The New Yorker has refused to publish them. The publishing industry has blacked out a generation of male writers & then they wonder why boys don't read.

Unless you actually currently have kids and regularly go to libraries, its hard to believe how bad it is
One time I brought my kids to the local library to meet up with my buddy, who doesn't have kids. I told him about how awful 90% of kids books are now, he rolled his eyes and told me I was being dramatic. My kids ran off, I chased them around a bit, he went and perused the children's section, came back wide-eyed and said "Holy shit dude you weren't kidding"

Imagine if the hardest form of "no aliens" is true.

for sixty years you have been sold a mystery. the universe is huge, the stars are old, somebody should have called by now, and the silence demands an explanation.
three researchers at the Future of Humanity Institute in Oxford went to check the arithmetic under the product.
what was in the old packaging: one number plugged into each slot of the Drake equation. a single value for the share of planets where life starts, a single value for the share where intelligence appears. point estimates.
the trouble is that our knowledge of those quantities is smeared across orders of magnitude. you cannot be uncertain by a factor of a billion and then write down one number for it.
so Anders Sandberg, Eric Drexler and Toby Ord fed in the whole spread of the uncertainty instead. they ran it twice, once from their own reading of the science, once from the range of published estimates in the astrobiology literature.
the output:
> probability we are alone in the Milky Way: from about half to near certainty
> probability we are alone in the observable universe: from about 40 to 85 percent
at those numbers the silence stops being strange. nothing is missing from the sky. no paradox left to explain, and no Great Filter needed to explain it.
i went in expecting to find the trick, because a paper that deletes a famous problem usually has one. what i came out with is a complaint about method. one number written where a range belongs, repeated for sixty years.
the fine print, and i am the one insisting on it. these are probabilities under the distributions the authors picked, so change the assumptions and the numbers move. the paper measures how little we know and it does not prove that nobody is out there. what it takes away is your right to be surprised that nobody has called.

The Jews knew that the Messiah was going to be born around the time of the first century because of the prophecies in Daniel.
Many Jews also thought this Messiah would establish Jewish military dominance and a universal empire. Like the Kingdom of David but across the whole world.
This is why the Zealots rose up, especially in the great Roman-Jewish War of 66-70.
The Messiah did come during the first century.
But He did not deliver the Jewish world empire that the Zealots expected.

Morale ratings should never have been removed from D&D. Morale isn't just a flat number. It's a measure of how craven or brave monsters are. They shouldn't default fight to the death. Modern systems rely on good judgement and experience over having this useful learning mechanic.

Reminder that the first thing Haiti did after independence was attempt to invade and conquer the Dominican Republic. After several decades of active warfare and weaponized rape, the Dominicans (outnumbered almost 10 to 1) still managed to repel them.

Brother, I have absolutely no problem encouraging young men to succeed, work hard, lead, and build good lives. In fact, I think we need more of that. But why does their skin color have to be part of the encouragement? Why not encourage all young men?
I understand the frustrations you’re describing, but I don’t believe the answer to racial division is more racial division. As Christians, we should be pointing young men toward their identity in Christ, not their identity as white or black.
I want young men to win, too. All of them. And I don’t see why we need to put race in front of that.
