According to my source, Matheus Cunha had an altercation with Michael Carrick last night at half-time, and what followed created serious friction in the dressing room. Cunha’s frustration stemmed from what he perceived as a lack of collective effort. He reportedly argued that the team wasn’t functioning as a unit, with some players working hard while others were strolling around the pitch. Not everyone took kindly to that assessment. Some players reportedly felt Cunha was disrespecting them by suggesting they weren’t giving their best. Cunha also questioned the decision to play Bruno Fernandes as a false nine. His argument was that the system wasn’t working because there was nobody occupying the right positions to receive the ball in the final third. He reportedly urged the coaching staff to make a tactical adjustment. Bruno wasn’t happy with that criticism. He responded angrily, insisting he was simply carrying out the manager’s instructions. Things escalated from there, with several players, including Bruno, confronting Cunha over what they perceived as him blaming individuals rather than accepting collective responsibility. Carrick was unhappy with the situation, and this is said to have contributed to his decision to substitute Cunha. My source also claims the dressing-room tension affected the team’s performance in the second half, which is why they conceded three more goals, because they were not in the right frame of mind.
