82nd Airborne was best years. Recruiting has a special place in Hell that that they bullshited me into 11X. That made me an 11C and sent to Ft Hood in a mechanized purgatory for 4 years. Burnt me the hell out and robbed me of years before I could reenlist for 11B Airborne
Forgive me for not remembering names, I am old and give out. Heartbreak Ridge had a lot to do with my unit at 2nd 325th AIR 82nd. My unit had two KIA in Grenada, a squad leader was killed by a sniper and the CO was killed while loading a recoiless rifle. We had memorials all around Battalion area but for life of me can't remember names
After I did 12 miler for mine, I still had call for fire left. They told me to say so and so and I did and I passed. That earned me EIB, following year I was instructor on that exact course. I learned it in and out because of help I received. I was absolutely never a "badge protector" I always helped people and returned favor unless they were typical short timers that didn't care..which that did piss me off
As an EIB grader I would always help and do everything I could, even with officers. However on Thursday, knowing the last event was 12 miler on Friday for completing it, I would screw with all officers on that day before, especially if blade running. Instead of saying you passed, I would look solemn and say, I am sorry to inform you, Sir, then smile and say, you are walking 12 miles tomorrow, Goodluck and congratulations
Doing EIB in 2000 at Ft Bragg, I was an instructor and grader on Estimate Range. I was used to Call and Adjust Indirect Fire which was a booger for most. If you rolled a donut on Estimate Range, God help you 😂
At Bragg rhe Estimate Range was on a cut out hill with power poles, we told you how far each pole was and the target was within 10 meters
If anyone was going through EIB training at Ft Hood on May 27, 1997 I was instructor and grader on call for and adjust fire. I point that day out because they shut us down at noon for severe weather and Jarrel, TX 30 miles to our south got hit with a devastating EF5. That thing killed so many and is in famous Dead Man Walking picture
After I got EIB in the Army, one of courses I was instructor and grader on was Call For and Adjust Indirect Fire. That one was tough for most
While I was in, Army went from field jackets to gortex jackets. I still have my 2 field jackets that ai still wear with liners. I wear them like normal, kinda like Rambo waiting for a petty ass sheriff to call me out 😂
I know vast restructuring has happened. Questions I have is does HHC 1-9 Cav, 1st Cavalry Division or 2nd-325th AIr, 82nd Airborne Division still exist anymore?
When you wake up for a smoke and realize you have to go out for more. Since Seneca unfiltered, no concealed firearm, just a M9 bayonet. If were Camels or Luckies, would carry a WW1 bayonet sword 🤣
When you want to be Infantry and you get sentenced to mechanized, it feels like prison. Everyone there is biding time to getting out. Such a toxic environment for new guys
People talk about flipping a lucky cigarette. All of mine are lucky, at least they used to be Luckies and Camels. I have always smoked unfiltered and now reduced to Seneca because of prices. Seneca is half step above rabbit tobacco. Shame, for years I bought Camels and Luckies unfiltered at the commissary for $6 a carton until Clinton stepped in and added tax to military tobacco. Thanks Slick Willy
Doing a 20 miler through Ft Bragg and having that "feel sorry for yourself" moment. Yes I did think back to days gone by and think mechanized would be great right about now 🤣🤣🤣
