Ever since meeting the Ipswich Family Bank during the general election campaign in June 2024, I’ve been so proud to support their vital work. This Christmas, @PLMRLtd and @GenesisPRUK have been supporting their wonderful work by delivering Christmas packages for families in most need. We look forward to continuing our support into 2026. Please visit ipswichfamilybank.com if you are able to do the same.

We should change tack on this. 100 %.
I don’t understand why left wing politicians are not fully behind the Chagossians’ desire for a say over what happens to their homeland. It seems to be a right wing cause.

I see all the right people are losing their minds about this. It's good for our politics for people to see the human side of their political leaders... and its for charity 🤷‍♂️

It is always great to spend time with the Ipswich Family Bank team. I am forever inspired by the work they do to support local families week in and week out!   That’s why it is such a privilege and honour to become the charity’s Patron for the following three years.   Since first meeting the team during the 2024 General Election campaign, I’ve seen the huge difference they make to local families and have been proud to support their invaluable work ever since.    The team are the best of the best, and they inspire me every day. I look forward to working alongside them in the future.   If you might be able to help, please visit: ipswichfamilybank.com

LIsten to @DaleVince on this 👇👇👇
Today’s @guardian article about the go ahead for Jackdaw is packed with angry reactions from environment campaigners of one flavour or another. On the whole I find them illogical. @tessakhan of Uplift says Jackdaw won’t stop the overall decline in North Sea jobs - obvious. Ellie Mae O’Hagan of E3G says the government should invest in heat pumps instead - madness. @ZackPolanski says it’s climate vandalism and a betrayal of all our futures - counterfactual hyperbole. Ami McCarthy @Ami_McC of Greenpeace says this project won’t boost energy security - but the gas will be used here….. The arguments against Jackdaw are mainly arguments against something the government hasn't claimed today….but there’s also the 'Shrodingers Jackdaw’ - it’s described as both too small to make any difference yet so big Shell will “generate record profits” - can it be both things? Nah. It’s actually too small to make much of a difference to anything, good or bad..... Jackdaw is tiny, it holds six months or less of total UK annual consumption - that’s it. The gas will be used here, I don't think that boosts energy security by any measurable amount, but it will be made and used here - unlike the oil from Rosebank - important distinction.. But here’s the big thing that's missing - the gas from Jackdaw will have a much lower carbon footprint than the LNG we use now. Up to 75% less. Overall our carbon emissions will surely go down not up. Not by much - this is a tiny project. Climate activists (some of them) need to be real - tiny gas field, already licensed, producing lower carbon gas than we already use, therefore lowering our emissions as a country (but not by much) - doesn’t move the dial much on anything actually. Calm down and carry on I say…:). The North Sea is in terminal decline, our need for fossil fuels is going down with it - this graph in the G illustrates. Jackdaw makes no difference. #JACKDAW #northsea

I welcome today's decision on Jackdaw. I have always argued that we should use our own resources to enhance our energy security. (1/3)

Such brilliant work by Mark Ashton @edsheeran and the @Lentonbrook_ Foundation - will change kids’ lives in Ipswich and Suffolk 👊👊👊
💙 Great to hear that The Lentonbrook Foundation, founded by Chairman Mark Ashton, recently raised an incredible $1 million at a fundraising event in New York. The money raised will support underprivileged children and young people in Suffolk. lentonbrookfoundation.co.uk/…

A certain Rachel asked Nobel laureate Paul Krugman a question at Oxford last night, casually noting the IMF’s praise for UK deficit and debt reduction and the productivity puzzle being revised away. All during her time as Chancellor, as it happens. Laughter and applause.

On the fifth anniversary of the murder of my good friend Sir David Amess, killed doing his job as an MP, I'm thinking of his family. David was unfailingly kind & treated everyone equally. In our democracy, everyone should be able to go about their work without fear of violence.

Five years ago today, Sir David Amess was killed while serving the people of Southend West. I knew David as a kind, tireless colleague who dedicated his life to public service. His death was a terrible reminder of the risks faced by those in public life, and of our responsibility to ensure that everyone can serve their communities without fear. Today, we remember David’s extraordinary commitment to the people he represented, and the lasting loss felt by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Well said @KanishkaNarayan - it is the central question in Britain - it is asking what are we actually about?
There are moments when what’s at stake in politics is felt with personal force. I am conscious that this moment is one of those, for so many of us 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧

Donald Trump banning certain media outlets is incredibly un-American. One of the great things about the UK is our free press. Media outlets can (and do!) challenge the government of the day and our democracy is all the better for it.

Utterly wild. A @Conservatives Leader talks with good sense on being English and pride in our country and @reformparty_uk politicians tear into her and relish citing her full name. Why? (Checks notes).
This isn’t the David Campbell Bannerman I know, like and respect. Reform bosses must be turning the screws on former Conservatives. It’s desperation and won’t work but so disappointing to see friends and former allies reduced to this.
