So excited to see my first independent idea finally published. I learned so much writing this (mostly from @MEVillarrealMD) and it was a JOURNEY into the #surgpall world. Grateful to @traumadoctors and @JSurgRes for the chance to share! 😍

Academic Medicine will say “diversity is important,” while actively maintaining anti Black spaces.
Dr. Robert Ray Jr endured a harmful and toxic learning environment without support from institutional bodies claiming to care about DEI work.

Meanwhile in Florida, a woman, unable to get an abortion due to DeSantis’ deadly anti-abortion laws had to carry to term a baby that was found to have no kidneys at 24 weeks.
I’ll say that part again, no kidneys and was forced to carry the baby for an additional 13 weeks until she gave birth.
Deborah Dorbert’s son Milo died in her arms on March 3, shortly after birth just like the doctors said would happen.
Forced to carry, knowing there was no chance of survival. Then watching a baby gasp for air and die.
What part of that scenario is pro-life? The walking around for 13 weeks knowing your baby is going to die? Oh wait, is it the part where the baby took one breath and died?
DeSantis chases woke while real-life consequences are happening “death on delivery.”
That’s not governing it’s torture. #FreshWords
Heartbroken to hear about a doctor who experienced a pregnancy loss. Gladly, she had access to abortion drugs and lives in a state that supports choice. There is a real human impact with restrictive abortion laws. Women deserve compassion, choice, and access to safe healthcare.
Love working at Parkland!
Wound care/dressing changes are one of the most painful parts of recovering from a severe burn, so any distraction, especially for pediatric patients, is welcome. We teamed up with a @UTSWNews med student & @cristoreydallas to turn a wound care room into an underwater wonderland.

Devastated by the loss of another resident to suicide. We mourn not just an individual, but a system that failed to protect their well-being. She was driven to the edge by grueling work hours and a toxic environment... (1/3)
... but she was also courageously fighting for unionization to address the dire working conditions. Her death amplifies the urgent need for systemic change, both in mental health support and resident rights. Our healers deserve better... (2/3)
"Why did he shoot me? What did I do wrong?". Aderrien Murry, an 11 year old African American from Mississippi, was shot by police after calling 911... The 4 ft 10 in kid was "mistaken for an adult". Luckily, Aderrien is still alive after being shot in the chest. – at Dallas, TX
This lady tried to weaponize her white tears which could have gotten these black kids killed, then lied about it... She's a healthcare worker, wonder how she also treats her black patients...
“No one bothered to contact us to find out Michael’s story…They write all of these things about him, but no one bothered to ask him what happened or look at his receipts.”
