Had someone come up to me at breakfast “ aren’t you” so I politely said yes and he asked if he could sit down. He proceeded to tell me about his son’s baseball career, high school and all the travel, leagues he’s on and the money it costs. I was stunned, so I listened, he is in his senior year now and no college inquiries, not a one. He asked what he did wrong. I told him that if you wanted your son to play all those travel leagues for the love of playing baseball it was probably money well spent but if you wanted your son to plan all those travel leagues and spend all that money because you thought it was his road to a D1 scholarship, you were sorely mistaken. That’s where the illusion is with these travel leagues unless your son is an elite player he’s not going D1. If he is an elite player he’ll get recognized. No amount of travel league will illuminate more. I said if your son is an elite player if his stats back that up, he’ll go if not start looking into a division three program or Juko program he wasn’t very happy. he shook my hand, said enjoy your breakfast and left. Parents don’t live under the illusion that your son is an elite D1 player if he is, you’ll know so will everybody else.. more importantly don’t feed him the illusion that he is anything more than a good baseball player. Good baseball players don’t go to D1. Good baseball players don’t go to the minors. Good baseball players don’t go to the MLB only elite great baseball players do that. There are very few spots for those players because there are very few players lotta good players out there very few are great.

I’m usually responding to posts, but I saw coach Ditka passed away today. truly a throwback to the coaches of yesterday. I recently had it difference of opinion with somebody on the difference between team and and taking time off in the playoffs for the birth of your child. I can only imagine what Ditka would’ve said.😊 there is an onslaught today of analytical dependent beta coaches, something that I’ll never get used to. Coaches like iron Mike Vince Lombardi coach Parcells, our thing of the past in baseball coaches like Davy Johnson, Earl Weaver, Billy Martin Torrre are also ghost in our baseball past. I think the closest that we have to hanging on of the old is Coach Murphy from Milwaukee. I knew him as the coach at ASU. I realize those days are gone. Don’t want to be the old guy on the porch in the rocking chair saying I remember when, but it just seems baseball was different back then,so was football. I guess sports in general. sometimes getting rid of the old doesn’t mean the new is better. RIP COACH..

People think Jeff Frye and I are related, the way I defend him. I’ve never met him. I defend him or any fellow ex major leaguer because they won’t.they don’t have to. Clinics . Charity work etc. I get messages on who I am. Why do I ghost myself? I keep anonymous so I don’t have to deal with assholes trying to dis my college or pro career because it doesn’t live up to what their image of a “ball player” should be or what the stats should be. I know the sweat, blood and heartache it takes to get there.let alone stay for however long we are blessed to play this beautiful game. A month or 8 years. We are all blessed.

Just when I relax, some asshole wants to start disrespecting mlbrs. Very few know the struggle to make the show, the sacrifices professional ball players make..now. The average salary when I played was about 143000.00. the minimum was..are you ready..30000.. 5.4 million ave today, minimum is 78000. AAA MINIMUM SALARY IS 1250.00 A WEEK. AVERAGE IS 50000.00 a year. not include bonus money. To get to “the show” requires a shit load of struggles. So back off with your stupid opinions.

Isn’t it strange that WAR all the other acronyms that if a player is 280 ba and above he’s probably pretty good. The closer he gets to 200 , meh. If he’s below the Mendoza line he probably sucks. Now’s the always exceptions, Like Duran and several others, but as a rule.

As a former ASU player and a national champion I must say we acted differently. It was us and USC and a few others. Coach Brock was a class act, so was southern Cals. Coastal coach was an embarrassment to the school. Act like you belong man. A microcosm of today’s players.

My idols. I modeled my catching after Bench. I ran the bases like Rose. My zest for the game came from watching them. It was the way I was taught to play the game. I never met Ruth, or any other legends..but I met Rose.Bench too. I am grateful for those moments. Thank you. Rip PR

I knew Pete, I met him in Vegas. We chatted and we had dinner. We talked about baseball for 2 hours over a few drinks and a great steak. I had a cup of coffee in the majors. Pete had a career. He never mentioned the gambling but boy did he love baseball. The big red machine were
