Whenever I see someone say that "This tool that exist to make artist work easier is holding your progress back" in any variation, I just think "It just depends man." because not every artist has a goal that would line up with that.

I saw some truebox ad or something with color value matching options and a comment was like "Artist aren't going to learn actual color theory so it's holding them back" I'd actually argue it teaches them to recognize it more regularly.

Is it like "formal, they can explain it back to you" education? No. But it doesn't have to be. At some point, the artist just understands, "Hey putting a gray blue on yellow really makes it pop." and they keep that specific information.
