I hold no personal animus towards anyone who works at diocesean level. I'm sure they all have the best of intentions and love God. But there is in my view a problem when someone goes from meeting to conference to seminar to workshop, in an endless loop 1/

I don't think its about having beef. Its entirely possible to think your senior leadership or diocesean leadership are good people with good intentions who are also incredibly out of touch.
In my most extreme moments I think that before we start culling Bishops we need to work out preceisly which roles we need for statutory legal purposes (finance, safeguarding etc) which need to be kept and/or could be combined with other dioceses 3/
I know I've been negative about a lot of #Narnia stuff recently (with good reason in my opinion), but I have absolutly no complaints about these new cover designs.
Seriously they scream whimsical fantasy, call the mind the cover designs of earlier fantasy novels (the type 1/

that Lewis himself might have read) and the constant hint at the breath of Aslan is out of his world.
Really 10/10 no notes. #Narnia
You know someone like Jeremy Irons was right there.
Why cast Streep if you aren't going to be able to tell its Streep. Other than as stunt casting designed to get people talking #Narnia
Although Meryl Streep will voice Aslan in Greta Gerwig's upcoming Narnia adaptation, multiple sources tell us that the performance is distinctly masculine.
Earlier this week, Relevant Magazine reported on Aslan's voice in its coverage of the recent IMAX sneak preview event. A source described as someone "involved with the film who has seen it and asked not to be named" told the magazine that Aslan doesn't sound like Streep and has not been gender-swapped.
NarniaWeb can confirm those claims and have also received multiple independent reports indicating Streep will give Aslan a deep, gravelly sounding voice.

Even if you want to argue that this film doesn't need to feel like Narnia because Narnia doesn't exist yet, the trailer is also at odds with the tone of the book. The book is a very unsettling, quiet book, grounded in the silence surrounding Digory's mothers illness #Narnia 1/
From the uncomfortable silence of Uncle Andrew's study, through the soporific stilness of the Wood Between the Worlds, the eerie quiet of Charn and the nothingness of the unmade Narnia all of which are thrown into sharp relief by Aslan's creation song #Narnia 2/
Everyone saying "Read the books, Narnia doesn't exist yet." That's not what this person means. They mean the Magicians Nephew trailer doesn't feel like the Narnia series should feel. Which it doesn't. And this movie did.
The amount of discourse around The Magicians Nephew trailer should be a seen as a prime example of why you need to be really careful when adapting beloved franchies and yes the reason Netflix dropped millions on the rights is because they knew it came with an audience #Narnia 1/
is neccessary. And as far as I can tell Gerwig hasn't done that. Just something about how the children of the 50s became the adults who created the music she likes. That's not a good reason. Adaptions should respect the text even if they do make changes. #Narnia 5/
You wouldn't make a version of the Hobbit where the Shire is all tower blocks and concrete because it wouldn't respect the text. And on intial viewing this adaption of The Magicians Nephew doesn't either. #Narnia.
As an additional thought the idea you need to make it "more appealing" is absolutely a "pull the other one" concept.
The reason Netflix are willing to drop millions on the Franchise rights and millions on the film is because they know Narnia has a guaranteed audience #Narnia
Worth noting that The Chronicles of Narnia has been a best selling children's series for over 70 years. Its still regularly reprinted in new editions and has been adapted for film, radio, tv and stage. It is along with LotR one of the series that began young adult #Narnia 1/

(you know who else is there. Chaucer, Hardy, Kipling)
If your children aren't interested in the story without it needing to be glamed up and removed from its original setting they are never going to like it. #Narnia 3/
"Making it more appealing" is simply code for "taking out the uncomfortable themes we don't like" - Read the Christian bits. #Narnia Fin
