Thrilled would be an understatement We are trying to be at the cutting edge of soil restoration in farming and these words means the world to us.

We’ve benefitted massively from the teaching of Dr Allen Williams A brilliant man on soil and grazing and ecosystem restoration He’s been on our farm for three days and passed his verdict… 👇🏻

Bonkers isn’t it He simply doesn’t understand or recognise that a dispersed or hefted sheep system is well shepherded Presents welfare evidence that fails to prove what he claims - because it isn’t for the uplands And makes sweeping wrong claims based on something he saw once
When a debate about land-use policy descends into a highly personal attack on one individual, rather than addressing the substance of the arguments being made, it is difficult to see that as a sign of confidence in the case.

Cutting wheat yesterday: roughly 100 grains harvested for each grain sown. In the 1300s on the Bishop of Winchester's manors, 5:1 was a good harvest, 3:1 a bad one. Thank you, Haber-Bosch nitrogen fixation and hydrocarbons, for feeding billions and sparing land.

A deeply troubling read. "Over the past century, England and Wales have lost 98% of wildflower meadows. We have also destroyed half of Britain’s ancient woodland, half of lowland ponds, 90% of freshwater wetlands and 62% of all 'farmland' wild birds." We must do better. We are better than this. #Biodiversity #England #Wales #Nature #Birds theguardian.com/news/2026/ju…

Bad luck We’ve dismantled our system for changing this The agri environmental schemes are either: Grossly underfunded Competitive then empty Paused And completely unreliable

Today I’ve written to every major UK retailer asking them to temporarily suspend the sale of disposable BBQs online and in stores while the risk of wildfires remains exceptionally high.

This is the new reality of environmental scheme support for farmers… A capped budget that is a fraction of the budget needed, and a first come first served application system that sees the £ vanish in days, if not hours After that, hard luck And this is for the costs only
£56.25 million allocated in under six hours - this shows that farmers' ambition to invest in nature & farming is not yet being met with sufficient budget from government to achieve their full potential @angelaeagle @JohnHealey_MP Food & nature are vital for health @andyburnham!

Water and food should not be a part of election cycles. We should be planning now for 2080 and beyond, not 2030/35. Water and food are the first requirements of society, the long conversation should start there. @BBCNewsnight @angelaeagle #farming #environment

Under a Binface government, anyone who doesn’t accept human-made climate change as fact will be sent back to school, from Year 1 right the way to A Levels, to see if anything goes in the second time round. #VoteBinface

This Scottish highlander farmer points out a few inconvenient home truths about the wildfires currently in the Cairngorms. He should know. He works on the land.

I've never seen such good-looking crops yield so badly in my entire farming career. Crops that look like a comfortable 10 + t/ha are struggling to do much over 50% of that, utter disaster of a harvest. ................................... Again ! It's not just about the financial impact, either. Utterly soul-destroying for everybody involved, it gets harder to maintain a pride in your work when it gets destroyed by weather, seemingly every year now. Is there actually any point planting crops this autumn? I'm seriously beginning to wonder. #harvest

Upland farmers who farm on common land have found themselves excluded from future agri-environment schemes because the computer software prevents their applications. This is a disaster for hill farmers, our environment, and our tourism economy. I'm fighting to get this fixed.

First time I’ve managed herbal ley from new. This field has very shallow soil. Lots didn’t take initially so have grazed it three times since autumn. A total of 18 days with 350 sheep. It’s not rocket science, it’s just moving sheep. But it’s seems like a miracle. Very proud.

Started lambing today. This ewe was carrying triplets but 2 were dead, tiny and rotten. Nearly 40 ewes were scanned with rotten lambs in them, probably because someone let their dog chase the flock when they were in mid pregnancy. One irresponsible action, up to 80 dead lambs.

Obviously I am a bit weird about this by now but… Peat map of doom klaxon!! In the new land use framework @EmmaforWycombe fyi The peat map is rubbish and SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR ANY GOVERNMENT DECISION MAKING. Due to it not knowing what’s peat and what’s not, and all that…

'We're not getting rid of the water fast enough' I cannot emphasise enough how insane it is to spend barrels of public money pumping water out of a *wetland*. We are draining an ecological treasure to protect some of the crappest farmland in England. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx24…

REMINDER: We have no idea how big or how small this storm will be because Donald Trump cancelled NOAA funding. Over 40% of our nations weather balloons are non operational because of him.
