Being trapped in a nightmare. Not able to wake yourself up takes away from lucid dreaming.

The haunted doll finally spoke. It said, "Where do you keep the good snacks?" I've never been more disappointed in the undead.

Come closer, now. I can smell your fear.

Another underrated movie! Idle Hands (1999) with Devon Sawa, Seth Green, AND Jessica Alba (😱). Horror comedy type movie. Why was it underrated? Because it was released shortly after the Columbine shooting and received a lot of backlash because it contained gun violence.

Horror movie for spooky season! Trick or Treat (1986). Not a ton of people have seen it, but should. Plus, rock n' roll with horror! Plus appearances by Ozzy Osbourne (as a reverend 😂) and Gene Simmons.

It'll probably be fine.

Every house settles at night. The boards tick, the pipes knock, the walls cool and shift. You've heard it a thousand times and never once looked. But tonight, listen for the sound that doesn't settle. The one that stops when you stop. The one that waits until you've convinced yourself it was nothing. A house doesn't hold its breath. Something in it does. Happy Halloween 5th!

Sooo.. what kind of cryptids or monsters or ghosts or spirits or demons come out of flood waters? 👀 I feel like I need to be prepared for this.

Happy Halloween 1st, pumpkins!!!

😱

The real story behind A Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy Krueger. In the early 1980's, Wes Craven was reading the Los Angeles Times and came across headlines like "Mysterious Fatal Malady Striking Hmong Men" and "Night Deaths of Asian Men Unexplained." The victims were mostly young, healthy Hmong men in their twenties and thirties. The Hmong were an ethnic minority from Laos who had been drawn into the Vietnam War on America's side then persecuted afterward. They survived war, flight, and refugee camps and made it to America. Then they started dying in their sleep. No warning and no cause that the doctors could find. Families described men who dreaded sleep and fought falling asleep for days. Then they'd finally drift off and the household would hear screaming in the night. By the time anyone reached them, it was over. These events were named Sudden Unexpected Nocturnal Death Syndrome. Years later, some researchers linked it to a heart rhythm disorder called Brugada syndrome. Wes Craven wasn’t hunting for a diagnosis. What stuck with him was one account he kept retelling of a boy whose family had escaped Cambodia. The son was terrified that if he slept, the thing that was chasing him would get him. He stayed awake for days. When he finally slept, his parents thought it was over. Then the screams started. By the time they reached him, he was dead. He died in the middle of a nightmare. Craven said that became the central line of the film. Freddy's look came from Wes Craven's own childhood. At around ten years old, in his bedroom, he looked out the window and saw an older man in a battered fedora and dirty coat. The man stopped on the sidewalk and stared straight at him with "malevolent intensity". Wes Craven backed away from the glass but went back to look, as kids always do, and the man was gone. The name came from Wes Craven's school. Fred Krueger was a kid who bullied him for years. He also said the red and green sweater was deliberate, a color pairing he read is hard for the eye to process. The Springwood Slasher, a child killer burned alive by vengeful parents, is totally fiction. Wes Craven also called Freddy a dirty old man and a nasty father, drawing on real fears about predators that were surfacing in the '80s. Wes Craven didn't invent a monster. He put one together out of things that had already happened. What's something that has made you afraid to fall asleep?

Locals call it the Drowning Hour. The twenty minutes before a storm makes landfall. Old timers say if you're on the beach then, don't turn around when you hear your name... it's not the wind. It's whatever the ocean didn't want and gave back.
