🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 In the Scottish town of St Andrews, a ginger-and-white cat named Hamish McHamish became one of the town’s most beloved residents. Born in 1999, Hamish originally had an owner, but he preferred a life of freedom, wandering between homes, shops, cafés, and university buildings. Local residents welcomed him, fed him, and gave him places to rest. Over the years, he became known as the town’s unofficial mascot, loved by students, shopkeepers, and visitors alike. His popularity grew so much that he even had his own social media accounts and a book written about his adventures. In April 2014, residents raised £5,000 to erect a bronze statue in his honor. Remarkably, Hamish was still alive and even appeared at the unveiling ceremony to see his own statue. Just five months later, on September 11, 2014, Hamish passed away at the age of 15 after battling a chest infection. Today, his statue still stands in St Andrews, a lasting tribute to a cat who belonged to one person but was loved by an entire town.
