Today I decided to trade in my out of control “To Do List” in favor of a
“To Be List.”
What’s on your “to be list?”
Not sure if I’ll get to all of them, but if I can check off at least 3, I’ll consider it a good day.

Anyone whoever met Amy knew she was special. Bright, kind, quiet, compassionate, dedicated. I had the immense privilege of meeting Amy as an internal medicine intern when she was a senior (maybe chief) ER resident.
SAEM mourns the loss of our former President Amy H. Kaji, MD, PhD, a compassionate leader, cherished colleague, and beloved friend. She touched countless lives through her dedication to emergency medicine and her commitment to SAEM.

Career update:
After nearly 2 decades in hospital based medicine, I’ve made the switch to the home setting! Excited to be on this new (for me) journey with such an experienced organization: Vitas Healthcare.

There were a few posts with #Palliburn years ago for that ultra-niche area of those of us doing palliative care in burn centers! @ctburnmd

Congratulations to the 79 individuals who met the qualifications for the Academy's highest honor, Fellow of the Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (FAAHPM). These individuals achieve FAAHPM status by demonstrating significant commitment to the field of #hapc.
Fierce admiration for my pediatrician friends.
This is absolutely true.
And Rachel's description of compassion is spot on, even in the softer and easier adult world.
Sometimes I wish I'd been strong enough to go into peds.

Compassion isn't just kindness. It isn't just empathy. It isn't pity.
It is actively trying to relieve suffering.
And when kids are suffering, pediatricians show up.
We advocate for a better world for them.
It's hard.
But it's love. And I'm proud of us.

Sometimes life gets too busy. Everything seems to be falling apart. We can’t keep up.
Then something miraculous and beautiful happens…despite our frenzied efforts to control it all.
We just need to pause, let go, and look from a different angle.

Almost two years later and this essay continues to be relevant and inspiring.
I wrote this for us.
For this moment and all the difficult times yet to come. An offering, a suggestion, of a possible way forward. 💕

As knowledge is increasingly commoditized, we are entering the age of the heart.
The capacity to empathize, perspective-take, build trust, and regulate emotions are among the human skills that are the key capacities of the future.
I'm asking those who love the outdoors to post a picture. A picture that YOU took. Just a pic. No description. The goal is to regain peace and harmony without negativity. Please copy the text, put a picture on YOUR page, and let's look at these beautiful pictures. Here’s mine:

Today @CHNOLA I taught senior residents from @LSUHealthNO & @TulaneMedicine about #microaggressions -so grateful to the amazing physicians who invited me.
Healing is a process & I am reminded that it is easier to speak about hurt from a scar rather than an open wound. #EDI
I consider myself very lucky to have such amazing colleagues in both #palliativecare and #wellbeing. This is a special community.
This is collaboration in action!
So appreciative of our community of #clinicianwellbeing leaders in thought and action. Excited for what’s ahead! Colleagues and leaders like @KristinMDCT are priceless! #hapc #wellbeing #leadbyexample #burnout #professionalwellness

Consider including evidence based topics such as:
✅Patients want to know prognosis
✅Discussing prognosis does not take away hope / cause depression
✅Appropriate symptom management does not shorten prognosis
✅Follow structure in serious illness convo
✅IDT
✅Resp to emotion
Happy Doctors’ Day!
In honor of my favorite doctor.
So very lucky to have learned so much from him about medicine and life.
