My heart breaks for all those clever collies... I have the pleasure of sharing life with a beautiful and sensitive collie for the past year and a half. I adore Milo (4yo) and he will never need another home for as long as he lives. We do our very best by him, he is never alone, we've engaged trainers, he has lots of novel experiences and long walks off lead etc. However, having previously had experience only of lurchers and labs, we find his behaviour challenging and we often struggle to manage him. I once heard it said that collies would gnaw through their own brains for stimulation 😢 The sad fact of the matter is that only very few owners can meet such complex needs. This makes most people unsuited to collies (as opposed to collies being unsuitable as pets!). I don't know what the solution is - this is simply another in a very long list of ethical and welfare issues surrounding breeding, feeding, ownership etc. of our most faithful friends.

Great stuff as always from @StuartMMeikle 👏 I know it generated money (at least for the fat cats) but the statement below was a conundrum for me because of the huge associated 'cost' to our natural capital, people and animals. If there's any upside to the craziness all around it will be a return to our pastoral systems, hopefully regenerative and mostly organic and if we can only feed ourselves - so be it. That kind of 'great reset' I can live with .... The interim could be interesting though.....

For me these statistics reflect the lonely, broken world we live in 😔 I dont mean any offence to the Finns. I’m sure all countries in Western Europe, and maybe throughout the western world, are somewhere along the same trajectory…. Although my Finnish friend says Helsinki is a sinkku (singles) city 😞 Anyway we need something transformational to arrest society’s free fall
