This has been making the rounds, with some celebration and a lot of critique, and I have a few comments, the first two of which are, 1. congrats to this new Dr. and mom, and 2. it was her choice, as it should be. With that up front, here are my other thoughts:

So, I take this as a celebration of Dr. Brevard-Rodriguez's accomplishments on that day, which are most certainly deserved. Bravo! It is also worth looking at what institutions can do to better support pregnant students. But I also don't think we should assume the worst.

I also want to emphasize that institutions need to provide OPTIONS, not a new layer of rules for pregnant dissertation students. Every pregnancy and birth are different, and every mom needs to decide how to navigate that very unique time for themselves and their family. ~Fin~
