Cotton harvest finally started yesterday. Rains had slowed the process down and rain is in the forecast. Quantity and quality is effected by the summer drought. Hopefully we can keep rolling and let 2026 be a memory.

Hosted an agricultural group from Argentina, CREA a regional agricultural research group consisting of farmers and ranchers on tour in USA. Always a pleasure to discuss agricultural with fellow farmers. I always learn during these visits, we share common issues and values.

Some storms aren't meant to be waited out. They're meant to be walked through. In cotton, we know a thing or two about difficult seasons. But somewhere between the headlines, uncertainty, criticism and constant noise, it's easy to forget what brought us here in the first place. The people. The relationships. The purpose. **You can love an industry fiercely, fight for it relentlessly, and still refuse to let its hardest days steal the best parts of who you are.** PCG's latest reflection is about remembering our why, protecting our perspective and refusing to let the noise define the work we love. 👇 plainscotton.org/dont-let-th…

Had a thick frost on the windshield this morning with the temperature at 35 degrees. We will see if the regrowth on the cotton is effected.

A weather phenomenon that we haven’t seen very often this year, but glad to see it with thunder, even though the rain was just .35 of an inch, it was appreciated l!

Early morning hosting the TAWC field day discussing irrigation struggles in 2026. Great dialogue with many topics from drip, pivot irrigation & converting more into dry land. History lessons on the aquifer. Always promoting the Fabric of our Lives”Cotton” @TAWC_TTU @txresearch

Been a long Saturday morning. Two flats, two pivots stuck. The stuck ones are not cooperating. May be a while before they are moving again.

Thanks to @GregAbbott_TX @electcharles and @Burrows4TX for coming out to Lubbock to discuss the issue effecting the area and the great state of Texas. Hopefully solution can be found to keep agriculture, schools, and industry moving forward into the future.

I seen someone post a few days about most of the bolls in their fields were four lock. Concerned that yield potential will be down compared to five lock bolls. Couldn’t remember or find who posted it, but here is a three lock. Hopefully he’s the only one.

It’s amazing that a pivot can get stuck ( in the early AM) and the crop is burning up from the lack of water. Just another example that anything associated to irrigation 2026 is getting tired. It will be ending within the next week, it’s getting that time of year.

Listening to SiriusXM on my phone/hearing aids while changing another pivot flat. Then this song starts to play. “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake. Sometimes things happen for a reason without realizing the connection.

Not only am I tired of irrigation season 2026 but the equipment is too. Currently 11:07 pm and I’m out taking care of a pivot alert. Flat tire on end tower. Glad to have a system to alert of a problem so it can be resolved in a timely manner. I wished the timing was better.

A month ago cotton on the South Plains looked hopeful. The heat and the absence of rainfall has been brutal since. Finding small open bolls today in several fields with weak water irrigation. Dryland will not be worth harvesting.

Cotton is beginning to suffer with the continued heat and no rain. Some fields that irrigation is staying up is in full bloom. Rain would still help, however the forecast is not promising any the rest of August.

Arthur Farms hosted a group of farmers and ranchers from Australia. It’s great to interact with other agricultural folks, & I learn something every time as well. Talked about milo, wheat & the fabric of our lives “Cotton”. Also on the south plains of Texas you talk about water.
