1) The NBA injury problem is more of an availability problem - rest is disproportionately up compared to actual injuries and the data shows the increased rest isn’t even helping reduce injuries. 2) The “problem” is mostly early season lower body muscle strains and scientifically those are most effected by preseason condition and ramp up The big shift in injuries happened around 2017 and that was the time collective bargaining agreements shortened the preseason and training camps. Less load management + more preseason work and I think injuries go down
Replying to @BrianSuttererMD
Just two weeks for nba training camp before preseason starts, where everyone barely plays. May need to think about elongating that period.

I actually agree after running all the numbers. The only benefit of a shorter season is there are fewer games to get injured in. But the data doesn’t support the schedule, back to backs, etc as a factor in increased injuries. There also isn’t any support for the idea that load management and more rest days have done anything to reduce injuries. The injury problem is primarily lower body muscle strains happening early in the season. And that’s something that is most affected by off season and preseason prep and conditioning - not the schedule or style of play. I’m beginning to think the “injury problem” is really a modern athlete problem with a lack of proper out of season and preseason ramp up/conditioning.
Iman Shumpert goes off on anyone calling for the NBA to shorten its 82 game season, arguing that players should focus on conditioning and changing how they play instead of reducing the number of games. Shumpert points to legends like Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, John Stockton and Gary Payton, who played 82 game seasons, questioning why today’s players need fewer games. He believes the league should bring back more physical basketball, with players attacking the post, taking midrange shots, playing through contact and cutting down on flopping and exaggerated moves. He also questions how much extra time players would actually gain from shortening the season, arguing that changing the way the game is played may be a better solution to the injury problem. Bam Adebayo is the FIRST Miami Heat player since Alonzo Mourning in 2000 to record all three milestones in a single game: 35+ points 10+ rebounds 70%+ shooting from the field BAM WAS ABSOLUTELY DOMINANT. 🔥

Ngl Miami lowkey made Giannis the center and Bam the PF the last 2 games lol Once Giannis and Bam get their Jokic/AG 2 man high/low chemistry together then things get real interesting for Miami.

Said it before many times. Giannis is hard to play with and you need a very specific system to make it work with him. He needs the middle of the floor, wants to operate as a downhill point forward and can't play off ball or in the post. He'll put up 35, 13 and 8 off force though.
