Він провів 346 днів на позиції під Часів Яром: знищив 23 російських окупанти, а ще шістьох взяв у полон.
За цей подвиг Сергій Керницький, боєць 24-ї ОМБ, отримав звання Героя України.
У ближньому бою Сергій діяв просто і жорстко: спеціально підпускав ворога на 20–25 метрів, а потім зустрічав гранатою і добивав.
Каже, що робив це, щоб не промахнутися і бути впевненим, що ворог точно буде знищений. Стріляти здалеку, з-за кущів, сенсу не було.
Весь рік він вів відеощоденник. Знімав усе на звичайний телефон: атаки, трофеї, побут на позиції.
Зв'язку не було жодного, але телефон працював. Заряджав його від батарей, знятих із захоплених російських гранатометів СПГ.
Так збереглися сотні коротких відео: як горить бліндаж після влучання запальнички, як він рахує трофейні автомати, як смажить реберце на буржуйці та варить юшку.
До армії Сергій був будівельником на Хмельниччині. Мобілізувався 3 листопада 2024 року.
Спочатку думав, що пробуде на позиції три місяці, потім ще пів року. А вийшло майже рік.
Коли питав командира, чому так довго не міняють, відповідь була завжди одна: нема людей, нікого послати.
Позиція - це землянка три на чотири метри під Часів Яром. Пізніше її назвали "Керницькою" на його честь.
У перший же день заходу на позицію загинув побратим: снаряд пробив стелю і залишив дірку півтора на півтора метри.
Взимку Сергій стояв на спостереженні по дві години поспіль, бо на третю руки заклякали так, що автомат неможливо було перезарядити.
Бліндаж закладав мішками із землею та трофейними бронежилетами, щоб осколки не залітали всередину.
Буржуйку вивів трубами далеко через терен і засипав гілками, щоб дим не було видно з повітря і ворог не помітив укриття.
Патрони, гранати і навіть їжу він не просив у командира - усе збирав зі знищеного противника.
Так він назбирав 12 трофейних автоматів АК-12, бронежилет, лазерний приціл, сухпайки та сигарети.
У кінці січня 2026 року Сергій залишився на позиції сам. Спочатку загинув один побратим від ФПВ-дрона. Потім другий - той, з яким він провів майже рік на позиції. Осколок потрапив йому в артерію.
Сергій згадує, що зранку вони ще сміялися, а ввечері людина вже була небесною вартою. Просить, щоб земля була йому пухом.
Коли дрони зафіксували групу з восьми росіян, які рухалися захопити позицію, Сергій спалив усі спальники, розібрав трофейні автомати й викинув бойки далеко в поле, щоб нічого не дісталося ворогу.
Темної ночі він вийшов сам. Ішов як черепаха, бо ноги вже слабо тримали після контузій.
Двох загиблих побратимів забрати з позиції не зміг. Одного трохи присипав землею, другий залишився в бліндажі.
Сергій каже, що сам себе не може виправдати. Не знає, як пояснити це рідним і як дивитися їм в очі. Каже, що це страшно.
