Leisurely Morus Londinium mulberry heritage walk today through Chelsea in the autumn sun. Pleased and puzzled to see what looks like a Moraceae species suckering near to a black mulberry stump felled a year or two ago. In soil once Henry VIII palace garden.

Just back from a few days in Pukanec (Slovakia) as guest speaker at their annual mulberry festival. This former mining town has over 450 ancient black mulberry trees growing among the vineyards, several probably 500 years old. Thanks: The Kew Guild for funding and Miloslav Bahna
Our urban mulberry trees, like other urban trees, are suffering from the heat and lack of rain. The tree on the right is in the Royal Hospital Chelsea and has just lost a large branch full of fruit. The tree on the left is in Leytonstone and over 200 years old.
Join me for a walk among veteran and varied trees in the wonderful Golders Hill Park on Sunday as part of this year’s Urban Tree Festival urbantreefestival.org/golder…
