Lovely gift from a student: Ducktor of Divinity. He now sits on top of the whiteboard and watches over us
Great article. I’ve seen students deny themselves happiness and often success because they think (and are told) the only careers worth having are in STEM. Humanities advocates need to make a bigger noise about the skills on offer theguardian.com/commentisfre…
Guz is one of my favourite comics; very wise as well as very funny. There’d be an assembly in here if the language was less fruity
This was the massive advantage of doing it online. Yes, there are advantages to in-person appts but there’s the danger that the whole event becomes a social function, which it really shouldn’t be
One interesting thing I've learnt today is the number of teachers who think it's ok that parents' evening appointments often run over.
Opinion: this is not ok. You have an allotted slot, going over it inconveniences a lot of other people. Applies to parents and teachers.
I'd rather not see a parent who was late than inconvenience the parents who are on time, and the colleagues they are due to see later.
St Laurence’s Church in Rotterdam is fabulous. Almost destroyed in WW2, the restoration is a perfect mix of history and modernity and there are some super multi-faith displays, as well as a connection to Coventry through a cross of nails
Saw the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb yesterday. Most stolen painting ever. It’s incredibly beautiful, mysterious, inspiring and also more than a bit bonkers #REontour
I am going to be all over this like a rash
BREAKING NEWS! This September we are launching #TeamTasking. Every half term @AlexHorne will set a task for groups of children to attempt in large teams. It will be perfect for competing in houses, form groups, across year groups and phases or in sporting or social clubs.
I’ve had a wonderful few days, thank you so much for making me so welcome at Ranney instagram.com/p/C51hWguub02/…
NYU campus yesterday. Very different vibe than Columbia but the cluster of buildings around Washington Square Park means everything is close at hand; great blend of campus and city. Still not the best weather!
A bit of #REontour in the shape of Eldridge St Museum @eldridgestreet on the Lower East Side. This synagogue was falling down in the 90s but the restoration job is stunning and now it’s a beautiful museum
Not the best weather, but Columbia University has a beautiful campus. St Paul’s Chapel is particularly stunning. What an amazing place to study @Columbia
Still a bit on the fence about in-person parents’ evenings, but one advantage is that we can hand useful resources directly to parents. 100 ways to boost your grade went down particularly well with Y13 parents
Thanks @campbellclaret and @RoryStewartUK for tackling my question; on reflection I should have asked whether you think one-word judgements should go. They feel pretty indefensible in the wake of what we’ve learned about Ruth Perry’s awful experience
Does anyone else find that at this point in term, looking at screens for any length of time becomes exhausting? Yes I’m aware of the irony that I’m doing it right now
My job is fun. Shout out to my lovely colleague Iryna for lending me a suitcase full of Lego
