On 23 August 1989, two million Latvians 🇱🇻, Estonians 🇪🇪 & Lithuanians 🇱🇹 expressed their shared will to regain independence and self-determination, & to return to a democratic world.
Shoulder to shoulder, the three nations joined hands in a human chain – the #BalticWay – demanding that the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact be declared null & void & reminding the world of the crimes committed by totalitarian regimes.

Deeply disappointed by WHO’s @hans_kluge visit to Russia. The statement is as appalling as the visit itself. Russia is waging war against Ukraine, killing civilians, medical personnel, attacking hospitals- including children’s cancer hospital, in case the @WHO has missed it.
Today, I met with Mr Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation – a @WHO_Europe Member State.
Our discussions focused on:
🔹 The urgent need to ensure full respect for international humanitarian principles – including the obligation of all parties to refrain from attacks on health care facilities
🔹 Development of the new European Programme of Work and Russia’s support for WHO-led health initiatives in Central Asia
🔹 Collaboration through multilateral platforms such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, CIS, and the Eurasian Economic Union
🔹 Ongoing @WHO reform in response to the pressing challenges facing global health, including our reprioritization and restructuring efforts
🔹 Next steps following the adoption of the Pandemic Agreement, particularly on the Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing (PABS) system — because nobody is safe until everyone is
🔹 Partnership in #HIV prevention and improved access to treatment for populations at higher risk and in vulnerable settings.
