VERY SPECIAL NEWS! The King Center is proud to announce A'ja Wilson as the 2027 recipient of the Center’s BELOVED COMMUNITY YOUTH INFLUENCER AWARD.
Join us in celebrating A’ja as we present her with the award at the 2027 MLK, Jr. Beloved Community Awards in Atlanta on Saturday, January 16, 2027. Stay tuned for more information on how you can attend and watch the Awards.
The BELOVED COMMUNITY YOUTH INFLUENCER AWARD recognizes individuals whose influence helps inspire, shape, and advance a more just, humane, equitable, and peaceful world for the next generation.
To be a champion for humanity is to recognize that our influence is bigger than our accomplishments. It is to use our platform to lift others, open doors, inspire possibility, and help shape a better future.
And when it comes to being an MVP for youth, A’ja Wilson is showing us what that looks like. A’ja is celebrated around the world for what she does on the basketball court. But her influence reaches far beyond the game.
Through the A'ja Wilson Foundation, A’ja is helping young people, particularly young girls navigating dyslexia and other challenges, recognize their worth, develop confidence, overcome stigma, and understand that their challenges do not define their possibilities. Her commitment to education, mentorship, compassion, inclusion, and creating spaces where young people can thrive reflects the kind of influence that can change lives.
From basketball courts to classrooms, from young girls finding their voice to young people around the world watching her lead, A’ja Wilson is demonstrating that true influence is about more than being seen. It is about what we help others see in themselves.
We are excited to celebrate A’ja Wilson as an MVP not only in basketball, but in her commitment to young people and to a future where every child has the opportunity to know their worth and reach their full potential.
🏀 A’ja Wilson - 2027 BELOVED COMMUNITY YOUTH INFLUENCER AWARD RECIPIENT
Congratulations, A’ja!

THEE Jasmine Guy. Where do we even begin?
The style. The smile. The face card. The effortless confidence of a woman who has never needed permission to be exactly who she is.
An actress, dancer, singer, director, and cultural icon whose artistry has transcended stages, screens, and generations. You've given us decades of brilliance, humor, and a presence that simply cannot be duplicated.
Your portrayal of Whitley Gilbert gave many of us our first lessons in Black opulence, but Jasmine Guy, the woman, has given us something even greater: a masterclass in embracing every version of yourself, unapologetically.
You were gorgeous when A Different World premiered, and you're gorgeous today. Because a woman who has spent decades being THAT girl doesn't suddenly stop being HER. Some beauty isn't bound by time. It becomes timeless.
And to anyone with something to say, please report to the Dean's office with your transcripts. We'd like to review your credentials before allowing you to speak on an institution.
Until then, stream A Different World for good health, clear skin, and a crash course in class.
Honored to serve as a panelist for NCCU’s “Managing Life and School: Experiences of the Ages.” Grateful to share the conversation w/Dr. Chermaine D. Cole & Barbara Grissom. Special thanks to Sean Kalawan for the invitation & opportunity to share, inspire, and encourage students!

Just finished “Summer on the Bluffs” by Sunny Hostin. A beautiful story about family, friendship, love, identity, secrets, forgiveness, and finding where you truly belong. It reminds us that family isn’t always defined by blood.

I finally got the other tooth extracted. I’m back to eating mashed potatoes with butter (for flavor) for two more weeks.
Well, I have lost the weight I needed for my diabetes.
I’m so excited.
My book drops Tuesday. It’s been a long time coming. The end of an era.
Please consider preordering or going to the stores on Tuesday.
I’m also signing preordered copies here tomorrow and they’re shipping out early.

“America was changed in ways we will never forget 25 years ago, on September 11, 2001. Our nation lost nearly 3,000 people in the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Another year older, a new chapter as Department Chair of English, and simply enjoying life! 🎉 I’m grateful for every blessing and opportunity God continues to place before me. God is so good to me! 🙏🏾🙌🏾 #EyesOnSparrow
