None of you understand the root of the problem in France
The French were one of the most war-like people in all of history
For as long as there has been a France, she has been at war with a neighbor in Europe
The average peacetime interval for over 500 years was 9 years
Even before that, she was a land of belligerents
But the wars of the 20th century broke them
It has now been 81 years since France was at war
Peace has cost them their strength
No one alive remembers the last French war
And the French have forgotten how to fight

J’ai entendu dire que la France était finie, qu’il était trop tard pour la sauver.
Mais la France est toujours aussi belle, enviable même. Sa grandeur n’a pas disparu, elle ne demande qu’à renaître.
Nous avons surmonté en un an un problème cent fois plus grave, sans avoir les moyens dont dispose la France.
La France pourrait y arriver en une semaine.
