150,000 tonnes: Approximate amount of clinical waste produced by the NHS every year. Clinical waste has a significant environmental impact. There are opportunities to review the materials and to find ways of re-using, remanufacturing, or recycling, thus turning them into valuable resources for future use. By doing so the NHS can save approximately £11 million every year and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 30% – equivalent to removing 2 million road miles a year.

The transition into using greener materials requires a number of intermediary processes. As plastic will always be needed for research in some capacity, it's important to make this use as green as possible. In fact, plastic recycling is greener than glass recycling! #recycling
