To understand how the brain works, the brain must be working. We study active touch in a naive yet earnest struggle to solve the brain.

However, when both stimuli were associated with the same reward, the sensory maps in midbrain and cortex were nearly identical in shape. Therefore, the act of selecting one stimulus while ignoring the other shaped sensory space in midbrain but not the cortex.

Surprisingly, midbrain neurons were strongly biased towards the positive stimulus.

Our brain has two sides, yet how neurons bind stimulus features across the hemispheres to create a unified perceptual experience remains unknown. Check out our preprint, where we reveal the state-dependent logic underlying bilateral integration in S1. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… 🐭🧠

An often overlooked question is how sensory information across the cerebral hemispheres is combined to generate a bilateral percept. We are tackling this problem with a novel task that requires mice to discriminate matching from non-matching spatial cues. See it in slow-motion:🐭
