🌹A win for our Smethwick community! 🌹 Plans to turn Windmill House into one of the country’s largest HMO’s has been rejected again. A campaign led by the local Labour team of Cllr Ragih Muflihi, Cllr Farut Shaeen, Cllr Mohammed Jalal Uddin, and Gurinder Singh Josan CBE, MP saw many local community organisations come together with local residents to object to the planning application, and we won. A packed meeting held at St Mathews’s CE Primary School saw the community come together to organise more than 800 objections being submitted, along with petitions with over 1,100 signatures, all showing strong local feeling against these proposals. The council agreed with the community’s planning concerns including room size, quality of accommodation, lack of suitable shared space and outdoor areas, and the impact on neighbours’ privacy. Thank you to everyone who attended meetings, signed petitions, submitted objections and stood up for Smethwick. Your efforts have helped ensure these proposals were scrutinised and ultimately rejected. As your local Labour team, we will continue to stand with residents and ensure our community is being heard.
