I'm delighted to have been appointed as the Advisor for the National Cancer Plan! I'll be highlighting where delivery is off track and further intervention may be needed and assessing whether the Plan is delivering improvements in quality of life and patient experience.

We’re funding research to dramatically shorten breast cancer radiotherapy treatment. @YvetteCooperMP visited @RoyalMarsdenNHS to learn about a breakthrough trial. We’ve also appointed former health minister @AshleyDalton_MP to advise on delivering our National Cancer Plan. gov.uk/government/news/gover…

As Breast Cancer awareness month draws to a close, thank you to all those campaigning to raise awareness, supporting patients and survivors, and improving treatment and care across the country. 🩷 At the Royal Marsden this week, I talked to clinicians, researchers and patients about their radiotherapy trial, which is radically reducing breast cancer treatment times. Our world leading scientists and our NHS coming together to transform cancer care and save lives. This kind of innovation is central to our National Cancer Plan. That's why I'm so pleased that @AshleyDalton_MP, who helped shape the Plan as a minister, is now our ministerial adviser, helping to keep patients at the heart of our work and drive forward progress.

My basic test for any MP (& an indicator of their strength of character) for me is always how MPs treat their staff It is clear some MPs must do better. However, I had two excellent bosses as a Parliamentary staffer, it’s just sad to hear this isn’t the same for everyone else 🥺

100 days ago, I promised to do things differently. From cutting everyday costs to handing power back to communities, change is already underway. But I know there’s much more to do - this is just the beginning. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/a…

It’s been an honour to serve as your Deputy Leader for the past year. I promised to take back the political megaphone and set out a clear message about what we stand for and whose side we are on. That’s exactly what we’re doing: being boldly, confidently, authentically Labour. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/l…

A report by the Children's Commissioner has found Nottingham to be the fourth most challenging place in the country for a child to live. The finding is heartbreaking, but not unexpected. Child poverty in Nottingham rose by 16% during 2015-2023 as a result of Conservative austerity policies. Since being elected, Labour has abolished the two-child limit, which has greatly affected Nottingham, and increased funding for local services, but much more is clearly needed to tackle the inequalities shaping young people's lives. Every level of government must work together to meet the needs of our city's children.
