powerful words from Jason Kenney here: "I ask people as they're considering voting, put their minds forward to November 11th [and] the sacrifices of Albertans who lie below gravestones with the maple leaf on them. We do not have the right to rupture what they built and what they sacrificed for."
This retweet is a hot take, but don’t we have a problem keeping talent from leaving Canada?
Why not make it better for Canadians to live and thrive and a good education system providing for Canadian jobs?
Some UN committee (due to climate refugees among other issues) wants Canada to be 100m person country.
I’m not saying we should or shouldn’t do that, but if we want to increase our immigration (we’ve done this for a long time) we do need affordable housing, transport that works, healthcare that works and education that works .. etc…
Because who are we importing jobs for? For better communities? Or for the corporate owners who don’t want to pay Canadians to work? (Less supply of labour means higher wages)
Rather than twitter grift we need some alternative immigration systems, also super BS that Quebec is the only province that gets to keep immigration low to allow for the most affordable housing and cost of living.
Regardless of how you feel about immigration, something isn't adding up.
Canada has massive true unemployment. Poverty is rising. Healthcare is dying. The people being brought in are disproportionately not doctors and engineers (I fully support importing qualified talent). Voters don't want this.
There's an underlying problem here no one is willing to talk about. Our country is built as a Ponzi scheme. The government must import new people to pay into the scam so that they can pay out the old investors so that the whole thing doesn't come crashing down.
The problem is that every Ponzi scheme crashes eventually. And the longer it goes on, the worse the crash is going to be.
See you soon in Toronto!!

This has lived rent-free in my head for 2 days. That this is out there - who are you building with, are you building together (same wavelength) is it an environment that supports you, are you growing together, are you lifting others up? Psychological safety while innovating is not talked about enough! That someone put this into words and put it online - love it (thanks @tokifyi ), there are spaces all over the world that are building this and on the cutting edge - looking to keep being a part of them, and a HUGE opportunity for Canada. I can't highlight this enough - arguably our biggest opportunity is building more spaces like this, looking to be a part of more of this change in the world and across Canada - culture of innovation, culture of trade, culture of community building (and not in a culty way, but genuine awesome community!) 🍁🍁🍁
one of the coolest things you can do while building startups is surround yourself w people who are optimistic and genuinely rooting for each other
it’s already so hard to build something and i can’t be happier seeing people around me building things and taking bets on themselves
always trying my best to support in whatever way i can, just wanna see everyone win
Love these! Nothing is more Quintessential Canadian than Quebec Folk. Growing up in french class we sang the most culturally Canadian french songs, we also had East Coast songs that were very Canadian too, where are the Ontarian songs? anyone got Ontario folk over the centuries? Just english folk? Western Canadian folk? Arctic/Inuit Folk? (I don't know the rest of Canada!)
❤️Quebecois Folk
also have spirit of the west from Vancouver, getting older, these guys are from the 80s, Western Canada epics!

Other than my strong dislike for the term 'friendshoring' (will it grow on me?) this is good. Because it plainly explains what is happening globally - and sprinkles in some basic history, and provides a view of where we could be going for a better world, or specifically where 'middle powers' can focus, or where the 'modern west' is going

If we want to be a world class city, maybe we urban and bike like world class cities?! #to
“In London cyclists now outnumber cars in the City by 2 to 1. Paris, where they now outnumber motorists across the whole city, is catching up with Europe’s traditional bike capitals, Amsterdam & Copenhagen…In Copenhagen, bikes account for almost half of commuter trips to work/school.” @economist.com economist.com/international/…
Would love to see the removal of interprovincial trade barriers. What’s the hold up Canada?!
Let’s see.. federal government trade and commerce clause and peace order and good governance .. let’s get it done!! @MarkJCarney
Replying to @ChrisSpoke @fortworthchris
Texas produces more with fewer people due to higher productivity (~$90k GDP per capita vs Canada's ~$56k). Key drivers: no state income tax, lighter regulation, energy/manufacturing strength, ports, and policies that attract capital and talent.
Canada could close the gap by:
1. Eliminating interprovincial trade barriers.
2. Cutting taxes and regulations on business/investment.
3. Fast-tracking energy projects and exports.
4. Boosting capital investment incentives.
5. Prioritizing high-skill immigration and workforce training.

“Canadian investors are too risk averse.”
If Canada wants to keep talent here and build the next Silicon Valley, do we need to take bigger risks on Canadian founders?

who's tracking the impact of all these fossil fuel announcements (and data centres w/ subsequent electric grid requirements & other electric announcements) in Canada w/ net zero for 2050 and interim goals CO2 goals for 2030? we should probably get right on that - right?! #cdnpoli

Wouldn't it be great to have Canadian tech and Canadian companies running the digital infrastructure in Canada?!
rather than 85% US ownership of Canadian cloud infrastructure - what target should we have for our sovereignty other than 100% Canadian owned?!
Louder for the people in the back! 🍁🥁
