Time to take prompt oil profits. I am taking profits on prompt oil and products into the midterms. The regime trade stays on. It comes back to the two trades I described this morning. The war trade pays on the price of the barrel: prompt crude, products, the windfall on barrels already in the ground. It is eight months old. The regime trade pays on the cost of replacing the barrel: rigs, services, local production, bypass capacity, firm power and storage. It is the structural supercycle call we made in 2020, driven by deglobalisation, debasement and electrification, compounded by underinvestment. The war brought that trade forward, but it did not create it. A reminder of the scorecard: commodities are the best-performing asset class of the decade: the S&P GSCI has returned about 260% since we called for the supercycle in October 2020, against 121% for the Nasdaq and 120% for the S&P 500. Commodities were already ahead of both before Hormuz - it just widened the gap. Why take profits now? Escalation would be so catastrophic for food and fuel supply chains that neither side will pursue it, while a lasting deal is equally elusive. The compromise is managed instability, with Schrödinger's Strait at the heart of it: a Strait that is neither open nor closed. That caps the prompt barrel. It does nothing to cheapen the next one. It has been a fantastic run. USO is up 144% this year. Energy, where the refiners and integrated majors carry the product exposure, is up 60%, the fifth-fastest run to a 50% gain since 1990, and the Munificent 7 did it on a Sharpe ratio around 2. The war trade has paid. My view on the regime is unchanged. Eight months into the closure, the world is rebuilding its physical system around the expectation that the Strait closes again: Gulf producers loading outside it, Italy restarting nuclear, the Dutch reopening North Sea gas, China sitting on 1.4 billion barrels. These are long-term investments in energy security. None of it dissipates when the ships come back. The investment to support that regime has barely begun. Oil is near $100 and drilling has hardly moved. Upstream investment is still well below its 2015 peak and refining investment sits at a decade low. Calendar 2027 Brent trades above every forecast on the Street: a long-term supply problem that nobody has yet been paid to fix. A supercycle is a capex cycle. The owners of the molecule get paid first. The builders get paid next. Prompt oil prices a war. Long-dated oil prices a regime. Trade the first, own the second. I have cut most of my prompt oil and product exposure and kept a small position in case hostilities resume after the midterms. If prompt prices fall from here I will not be in a hurry to rebuild them. The money has moved to the services and producers that build the regime. The first leg has paid. The second is still being built. These are my personal views and positions, not investment advice.

Interesting comparaison between 2022 #WTI contract vs 2026 (Ref. oilprice.com Crude Oil Futures and Est. Contract $). A lot of analysts and investors crying about the higher price for #OIL which may increase inflation a lot !!! It's only the 1st time in OCT. 2026 that the WTI hit an avg. monthly higher price vs 2022. See for yourself !

Interesting graph ! But I see huge upside, especially for : $CVE.TO which not count $ATH.TO acquisition in Boe/d since Q2 2026 increase by 4% + % Refining margin much higher. $CJ.TO not counting Reford 2 now over 6,500 boe/d for Q3 and Q4 coming. $BTE.TO No more Hedges except 45% of bbl/d with hedges at 13,12$ instead of 27$ + Peavine waterflood coming near term + Duvernay Prod. growing + SAGD project starting potential of 5,000 boe/d. $TVE.TO merger with $HWX.TO Do you see all 4 stocks adjusted to 20% + FCF in 2027, as I do ? Thank's for the info !
DARE TO DREAM 💭🛢️ FCF profiles at $90 WTI / $100 Brent After maintenance capex: $PXT.TO 40% 🤯 (Colombian based) $OBE 20% $CVE 18% $SCR 18% $CJ 17% $WCP 16% $SU 15% $CNQ 15% After FULL growth capex, $PXT still yields ~31% and $CVE ~17%. At $90, the oil patch prints money. 🛢️🔥💸

We have to remember this : $BTE.TO $BTE Hedges on WTI-WCS diff.
The WTI-WCS differential widened out to $28.50 on Friday, and my guess is based on the heavy oil equity price action yesterday it’s likely blown out to $30 now. Still fetching a $100/bbl CAD though

🇨🇦Canadian Oil Is $28 Cheaper Than American. Who Collects The Difference? At $28 a barrel, US refiners collect about $75 million a day trom Canadian crude. The Canadian barrel still pays C$102, up 67% this year. This is roughly what an illustrative refinery makes from a barrel: •Gasoline: 37% •Diesel: 37% •Refinery fuel gas: 8% •Jet fuel: 5% •Petroleum coke: 4% •Asphalt: 4% •Residual fuel oil: 3% •Lubricants and chemical feedstock: 2% Canada exports about 4.5m barrels a day and refines under 2m. Most of the rest goes to US Midwest refiners, who buy it at the discount and sell the gasoline and diesel at war prices. The Canadian producer gets paid for the crude. The refiner gets paid for what it turns into. Who collects the difference is the subject of my latest article. Link👇 themerchantsnews.substack.co…

May give an idea of what is coming for $CVE.TO $CVE
🇺🇸💰Valero just had the best quarter in its history. Net income was about $ 6.8bn, more than 6 times a year ago. Adjusted EPS was $23.90, against $3.66 in Q3 2025. All of it came from the margin: 🔹Refining margin: $39.24 a barrel, three times last year’s $13.14 🔹Gulf Coast margin: $37.55 a barrel, against $12.21 🔹Refining operating income: $ 8.8bn, against $ 1.6bn It made that on less fuel, throughput fell 3.7% to 2.97m b/d. The war took barrels out of the system. Russian refining is down about 1/3. Gulf product cargoes sit behind Hormuz. Benchmark US refining margins have more than doubled since the conflict began. Valero says its refineries ran at “near-record utilization.” Gulf Coast plants were still running at 96% in October, when they would normally slow for maintenance. Valero is already booking costs from a fire at Port Arthur. Shareholders are getting paid. Adjusted operating cash flow was $ 7.3bn, and 52% of it went back to them. Refiners are the clearest financial winners of this war. A peace deal that brings back Russian diesel and reopens Hormuz would also hit them first. I explain how in my latest article: “Can Diesel End The War In Ukraine?” Link 👇 themerchantsnews.substack.co…

Got #OIL ?
American crude oil inventories are now down 500+ Million barrels since 2020 as massive and rapid drawdowns have strained the system to its limit. With Permian production having peaked as well, this structural bull cycle's floor price and ceiling price both continue to rise! 🛢💰
