On the Kastelo matter:
1. Have any of the clients/investors lodged a complaint/said Kastelo stole their money? So, did the public suffer?
2. Has SARS claimed taxes were not paid? Or were avoided? So, did the Fiscus suffer?
3. The PIC holds about R330bn off shore. Is SARB happy?
While everyone talks about FMD and vaccines and Government's challenges in delivering, I note with concern the mainstreaming of the words "National Herd".
Those aren't Government's cattle herds Minister, it's someone elses cows. Privately owned. Don't forget that.
I can live with Cape Town, Queenstown, Britstown and even Pinetown. Klerksdorp, Ventersdorp, Krugersdorp and Pacaltsdorp are still okay. But Robert Sobukwe Town, really? There is no other name that the Wise could think of?
Don't know who needs to hear this, but the WEF has never and will never create jobs for South Africa.
So if you are waiting for a jobs plan from the WEF (or anyone else who attended WEF), stop waiting, get up and start grafting!
Fascinating discussion with my 11 yr old, asking me why SA doesn't implement a "Green Card" system like the US for our neigbouring countries to afford those who really need it the opportunity to live and work in SA legally? Any thoughts?
When you are the Boss of a country, or a company, or an organisation, or a house, a party or a place and that place is shit, you are hardly going to say this is a shit place/party/house/org/company/country, are you? Because you are, well, the Boss. 🤷🏼♂️
In the National Treasury note on the lower inflation target:
"However, lower inflation will also initially slow nominal GDP growth (projected to grow at an average of 1.8% over the medium term), given that tax receipts are linked to nominal GDP.
/2
“This will reduce fiscal space, while the real value of public debt will decline more slowly, leading to a less favourable debt-to-GDP ratio.”
So, initial slower growth (how we can grow even slower than now is beyond me) AND worsening debt-to-GDP ratio. BUT, in the end it will..
Why would we prioritise building roads as our core infrastructure? One would think:
Energy
Water
Railway
Ports
Communication (ICT)
Factories and Laboratories
But no, let's have freeways and roads. Thinking has left the building (and the country)....🫣

"It's no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline, one that most people consider to be ‘dismal science.’ But it's totally irresponsible to have a loud and vociferous opinion on economic subjects while remaining in this state of ignorance.”
This is quite something. To ponder on. To research about. To write about.

We have given up our industrial policy to the Chinese, our monetary and fiscal policy to US banks and our energy and climate policy to the EU. Zero sovereignty
