I've never thought this was funny. Someone's going to break their neck.

I'm 3 essays in. It's been great so far. I think this is exactly what I was looking for--something I can really sink my teeth into. I'm just reading it off of the BYU website rn. I just ordered a hard copy. I need it in my hands. I want to mark things.
3 paragraphs into Warfare in the BoM and I'm already finding interesting insights. Nephi was specifically instructed by the Lord to keep a record about the wars and contentions of his people. Both of Nephi's records were recorded equally by way of commandment. The wars are important. It's not just filler. For the Nephites, there was no separation between church and state--religion and politics. War was an "all-important religious affair and sacred obligation."

I think it's time for another hard reset. I'm in a rut. I've fallen back into old habits. Let my productive endeavors fall by the wayside. Gained a bunch of weight. I've already started correcting that last thing. I'm doing Keto again. Down a few pounds. I want to incorporate some serious, deep scripture study into my daily routine. Not just podcasts/YouTube vids. I want to pick an aspect of scripture that I'm particularly interested in and just go all in (why I was asking about books on warfare in the Book of Mormon yesterday). I want to start practicing the guitar again. I've kind of been consumed by collecting trading cards lately. It's become my primary hobby. I want to keep doing that, but it's a passive hobby. I'm not doing/creating anything. The guitar is more rewarding in a lot of ways. And I just want to re-center myself on Christ. Work on that connection. Daily, earnest prayer. Scripture study. Wish me luck.

I did NOT wake up at 4:00. That was a stupid plan. Why did I think I could do that? I did get out of bed, but after standing there, thinking about it for a minute, I got back in. I just start work too early to be doing this. Sleep's important. I don't get enough of it as is.
The plan: Before work tomorrow, wake up early, weigh myself, shower, and then study the scriptures. Warfare in the BoM is free online. I'll start there. Restart Dune Messiah. Read it whenever I have a chance throughout the day. 1 hr guitar practice immedietly after work. This one's highly dependent on what my afternoon looks like, familial responsibilities. I'd like to list a couple cards on my TCGplayer seller account at some point as well. Get that ball rolling. Clean and organize the area where I'll be storing and selling the cards (my room). I just want to be more productive overall. I'm fading.

Hey guys, I went back to being public. I am trying to get enough interaction to get monetized. With Kevin out of work, I have to use every opportunity I have. I'm going to be posting CFM content a lot. Please like, share, and answer for me. I need to get my interactions up.

Avenged Sevenfold is my favorite band. I've been lucky enough to see them 3 times in concert. This last time (8/26), I noticed they were selling trading cards at the merch booth. At the time, I didn't think much of it, but now that I'm all into trading cards again, I went online to see if I could snag any. Apparently, there were only ~1000 made. There are 5 cards, 3 variations each. The lowest price I can find online is $100 (for the common ones). The rare ones ("magma" 5% pull rate) are in the $1000s. They were $25 at the show. I should have bought a few. I didn't know how scarce they'd be. Probably not liquid at all. Only for diehard A7X fans.

Prop one in Idaho must never come to pass. This abomination will not stand.

Reading fiction is another thing I used to really enjoy. I can't remember the last book I read, though. And music. I need to find some new music.

My testimony of the Book of Mormon started with... the war chapters. I hear Saints complain that the war chapters are dry. I even hear people recommend you skip them when reading "cuz it's just history, no spiritual value." What a sad attitude. What a missed opportunity. Before I was 9 or 10, the Book of Mormon felt stuffy and boring. But then I read Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites by @frostcave. It's historical fiction based around just a few verses of the war chapters, but it had a profound impact on me. He takes the geography, the politics, personalities, the battles, and the epic conflict between good and evil, and smacks the reader into the middle of that epic drama. I started reading scripture differently since then. The Book of Mormon, in particular, has come alive for me. Now as I study, powerful principles and lessons jump off the page at me. I've written a few dozen (and counting) articles on my Book of Mormon blog about the war chapters: powerinthebook.com/categorie… There are also books that I have that have not yet read about this topic specifically that may be good resources in a study of the war chapters: 1. Righteous Warriors by John Bytheway, and his fireside devotionals on the same topic. 2. Bad Guys of the Book of Mormon by Dennis Gaunt. 3. The War against Christianity: History and Geography of ancient America in the Book of Mormon by Troy j. Smith. 4. There are many verse by verse commentaries in the Book of Mormon that also contain great insights on the war chapters. Mormon did not spend so much time on the war chapters just because he's a military guy. He wanted to focus on peace. He wanted to make 4 Nephi a lot longer. But the Lord knows what we need in our day, and He directed Mormon to focus on conflict. So don't skip over the war chapters next time you read. You'd be missing some of the best and most important parts.
I think I've asked this before, but do any of yall have any recommendations for books about the war chapters in the Book of Mormon? Or warfare in the scriptures in general?
