Intriguing to see some Northern Gannets off Noss, Shetland yesterday showing black iris coloration linked to a previous Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1 infection. Top left clockwise some birds fully black and some <25% black. Lower left a normal individual. #birdflu

Picture of the Week 2023
This weeks winner was taken by CBWPS picture editor Tony Mills! Its not often that you can get such close views of Little Auk in Cornwall so we all agreed it was top contender and this weeks winner. Well done Tony!

This is the first-ever still picture of the only sea anemone known to live in ice. 🤯
How the anemone manages to penetrate the ice with its soft body – or even survive there – remains a mystery.

• We had $0 budget
• We had no PI (Principal Investigator)
• We had no credentials
