My first week practicing law, I showed up to court with a simple agreed order. The judge was absolutely tearing into two attorneys. She finally told them, “Go out in the hallway, act like adults, and figure this out. Otherwise, I’ll make a decision neither of you likes.”
Then she looks up and says, “NEXT.”
And here I come. One week fresh from passing the bar. Walking up to the bench shaking.
I have never been happier to tell a judge that everybody already agreed on something.

We should also remember the bravery of RCMP officers Curtis Barrett, Richard Rozon, Danny Daigle and Martin Fraser, who walked into gunfire down the Hall of Honour and helped take down the gunman who killed Cpl. Cirillo.
On this day in 2014, Corporal Nathan Cirillo was killed at the National War Memorial. The shooter ran to the Parliament Buildings where he was killed.
Sgt-at-Arms Kevin Vickers, his security team and the RCMP earned the Star of Courage and Medal of Bravery.

ALT Corporal Nathan Cirillo standing at attention outdoors, viewed from a three-quarter angle. He has short dark hair, a trimmed beard, and a serious expression, wearing a dark military uniform jacket with epaulets, a white collared shirt and dark tie, sleeve stripes, a triangular shoulder patch, name tag, small pins, and a crown-shaped insignia on his chest. A dark Glengarry-style cap with a small pom-pom top and checkered band sits atop his head. His belt is light-colored with a polished buckle, and the blurred background includes architectural structures and faint figures.

Not the first time this year! In Hunt v Canada, 2026 FCA 88, Stratas JA (for a unanimous panel) said the SCC's Wilson decision sat at odds with the SCC’s own “text as anchor” cases, leading to instability that lurks in the background of the UNDRIPA dispute.
