New Summons for Lina Attalah Law and Democracy Support Foundation (LDSF) condemns the summons issued to Lina Attalah, Editor-in-Chief of Mada Masr, to appear before Egypt’s Supreme State Security Prosecution in a new case, marking the sixth case targeting the outlet and its journalists in recent years. The continued prosecution of journalists for their professional work undermines press freedom, restricts the right to information, and further shrinks the space for independent media. We call for the case against Lina Attalah to be dropped, for an end to the harassment of journalists, and for the protection of independent journalism and freedom of expression in Egypt. #LinaAttalah

🚨 Egypt: Escalating Prison Protests Renew Concerns Over Prolonged Pretrial Detention 🔵 Ten human rights organizations have issued a joint statement expressing grave concern over reports of escalating protests inside several Egyptian prisons and during court hearings, where detainees have demanded their release and an end to prolonged pretrial detention. 🔵 The statement also raises concerns about reports of retaliatory measures against detainees participating in protests, including transfers to distant prisons ("taghrib"), restrictions, and other punitive actions. 🔈The organizations call on the Egyptian authorities to: 🔹Review the cases of detainees held beyond legal pretrial detention limits. 🔹Ensure the implementation of release orders. 🔹Investigate allegations of abuses and the use of force inside places of detention. 🔹End arbitrary transfers, retaliation, and the practice of case recycling. 🔵 They further stress that postponing the implementation of the new Criminal Procedure Code does not negate detainees' existing legal rights under current legislation. 📖Read the full statement: ldsf.info/blog/2026/10/09/es… #Egypt #HumanRights #PretrialDetention #RuleOfLaw #Justice
