We at Leadership Sculptor wish you a joyous and safe Christmas season, and look forward to seeing you again in 2026!
Great leaders don’t shy away from conflicts — they understand & tackle them. Recognising the difference between everyday frustrations & genuine conflicts is key to creating a thriving team environment. Step up, address the real issues, & watch your team’s productivity soar!
Many hope conflicts will resolve themselves, but true leadership lies in addressing them head-on. Expand your comfort zone by learning strategies to identify, discuss, and manage conflicts. Start with the crucial first step: simply acknowledging, “We have an issue to address.”
Tomorrow, we're hosting a short 30-minute webinar to look at these early signs more closely.
Where conflict actually comes from.
What worsens it.
And what helps.

Silence isn't always peace
In research environments, unresolved conflict often hides behind professional courtesy. Tensions are absorbed into the culture. What’s left unsaid quietly erodes trust, motivation, and performance.
Conflict isn’t the problem. It's a signal.
Mislabeling Challenges as Conflicts?
In research, it’s easy to label any hurdle as “conflict,” but not every roadblock qualifies. Effective leaders learn to distinguish true conflicts from minor issues, enabling better problem-solving and smoother collaboration.
Teams with shared goals and strong communication can often nip a conflict in the bud. Lack of cohesion, on the other hand, leads to isolation and misunderstandings. Build team cohesion, and you’ll build a foundation for productive harmony!
Poor communication, mismatched power dynamics, and rigid organisational culture are just a few triggers of conflict in research settings. Leaders who identify these causes foster a collaborative environment that supports innovation and team cohesion. #ResolvingConflictsinResearch
Types of Conflict in Teams
Conflict isn’t one-size-fits-all! It can be 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 (focused on work content), 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀-𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 (disagreements on logistics), or 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 (differences in personality and values).
Misunderstandings often arise from poor communication — whether it’s the choice of words, tone, or medium used. Diverse teams with varied backgrounds need clear, inclusive communication channels to stay aligned and avoid friction. #ResolvingConflictsinResearch
𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 ... 🧵
Lately I’ve heard the same quiet sentence from researchers again and again:
“Something feels off… but no one wants to say it.”

Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll share reflections and simple ways to recognise those early signals — the ones that make everything in the lab feel lighter when handled early.

This journey is just beginning.
