I can confidently say that humans were not very good at writing secure infrastructure. The endstate will be hypersecure infrastructure and software for all, but we're going to go through some turbulence before we reach that.

I know OpenAI has picked up a bunch of smart product brains this week, but the top of my list UX is NOT all the Codex nits I see people complain about
No. I want mobile ChatGPT fixed for ordinary users before Thanksgiving, so I have to answer less annoying questions in 3 weeks.
Real-life example from today: My uncle-in-law has been doing houses for 30 years. He knows I'm the AI guy in the family, so he asks me why ChatGPT has gotten dumber lately.
He's on a $20 plan, and when I have a look at the app he's basically set up to fail:
1) Reasoning level is not mentioned by the model when he asks the model why it's dumb repeatedly
2) Setting effort is buried 3 clicks down in his menu until he sets it, when suddenly that little speedometer appears out of nowhere
3) Nowhere can he select a model, he seems stuck on Terra (?) or whatever the default is, but of course he doesn't know the differences so he wouldn't know how to set that
His conclusion was to walk away to Gemini because Gemini on Google is free and offering him way better visual reasoning for construction.
I set reasoning as high as it would go and told him to come bug me if he still has problems. We will see.
TLDR // Fixing AI pain points like this has literally 1Mx the surface area of the stuff we Codex / Claude Code nerds care about. Let's obsess more over consumers!
We have a gif for you—ChatGPT Images 2.6 is here.
ChatGPT Images 2.6 can turn your prompts and pictures into animated GIFs.
You can also keep reference images of yourself, pets, and characters ready to reuse in new creations...no need to upload them again.
Go on. Make it weird. Send more GIFs of your dog dancing.
Images 2.6 is available today in ChatGPT, and Codex across all tiers on web, desktop, and mobile.

Introducing Personal Finance in Claude, in beta in the US.
Connect the accounts you choose, and Claude answers your money questions in everyday language, from your own balances and transactions. Access is read-only, and Claude can't move, manage, or invest your money.

Anthropic added a new /storage command to Claude desktop, allowing users to see how much space Claude actually uses.
There, users can also clear inactive tasks and unused worktrees.

hey now that there is a bunch of new @OpenAI people who will be wielding their Design Sense and Product Thinking to rise to the top of the "head of product" pile here are a bunch of things that need fixing in codex
- thread organization
- search performance
- native orchestrator threads (i swear if you say "dots")
- dots i guess
- the bug where i have a dot avatar but i click edit avatar and it defaults me back to a gray hole
- the haunted settings pages
- tons of polish (so many nits and sharp edges)
- the fact that i make a site and then immediately you ask me to login with chatgpt as the first preview
- connector experience
- memory / disk space management
- the models
k thx

OpenAI is adding family plans to ChatGPT, but honestly, what I keep seeing people ask for in the comments on my posts is a $50 plan for those who can't afford $100 but find the $20 plan too limiting.
A $50 plan with 2.5x the Plus usage limits, no 5-hour window, and access to frontier models would be a great middle ground for people on tighter budgets who still want access to the best AI has to offer.

1. I still don’t know what ChatGPT work is.
2. Please unify mobile and desktop codex menus. I can’t see half my threads or projects on mobile, and they aren’t ordered the same.
Also new threads should start at the top when in manual sort mode. And I should be able to manually sort on mobile
3. Let me have multiple scheduled tasks per thread, and simplify the options for where they go. Right now it’s really confusing trying to manage scheduled threads and tasks vs a dot. Theres like many ways between cloud, chat, work, on my local codex machines in the dot.

Since I shared that I was helping my mom fight cancer, I've learned a lot about what a caregiver can do.
Here's my new video where I walk through 5 steps that I'm taking and what I wish I'd known sooner.
The sad reality is that 2 in 5 people in the US will get cancer in their lifetime. If you include caregivers, pretty much every family is impacted.
This is my attempt to share what I've learned with anyone going through the same thing. I hope you find it useful.

lots of news breaking these days so I may as well sneak mine in if anyone cares and share that I recently joined @OpenAI 🫡
my time at Anthropic was a fever dream in the best way possible. got to help build the growth function, work alongside some really really talented people, and tackle some of the most challenging problems of my career.
incredibly grateful for the experience and excited for what’s ahead. also in case you were wondering, Ant has better coffee/drinks and OAI has better snacks.

An update on building games with Claude Code:
Last week some of you ran into Claude Code pushing back on game projects it should have just built. We'd added a short rule to the Opus 5.5 prompt to steer Claude away from recreating specific existing games, but it was also kicking in when you referenced one just to describe the mechanics you wanted.
We've updated that rule in 2.1.317. You can name a game to describe what you want and Claude should now build an original game in that genre. If you ask for a copy of the original, it'll offer to build something similar instead.
We want Claude to be as helpful as possible when you're building something original, but also to protect your work if someone else tries to copy it. We'll keep improving this, so let us know if Claude turns down work that's yours. Thanks to everyone who shared feedback!
Replying to @chasmmmmmmmmmmm
We added two sentences to Claude Code's prompt on Opus 5.5 to steer it away from recreating someone else's specific game because using Claude to infringe IP is against our usage policy.
Original games, genre games, and games built from your own designs and assets are meant to keep working.
We'll continue to iterate to ensure we're striking the right balance. In the meantime, if Claude turns down something that's yours, send it my way.

AI agents enter the wet lab.
In new @Nature N&V article, I discuss recent advances in agents running automated labs and ideas on how to make these systems more reliable. nature.com/articles/d41586-0…
Notion has changed a lot over the years. Back in 2022 we made a bet on AI changing the way people work, and it's what pushed us toward what we're building now: a context system for humans and agents, no matter the tools you use.

We’re sharing how our biology research team worked with Claude to map the first 3D structure of a vault particle from bacterial life.
Vault particles are a longstanding mystery. They are barrel-shaped objects, among the largest protein structures found in our cells. They were first discovered by Leonard Rome and Nancy Kedersha in 1986, but their function remains unknown.
With Claude, we’ve found results that might bring us closer to solving that mystery.
Until now, vaults were only known in the cells of complex things like animals and plants. We have shown that similar proteins from bacteria (and the viruses that infect them) can also assemble into vaults. Finding the structures in these simpler forms of life may make it easier to investigate their function in our own cells.
For our life sciences team, the project was also a demonstration of the potential (and the limitations) of using AI to accelerate science.
In our full piece, we discuss how Claude was able to dramatically speed up some stages—manually determining the vault particle’s structure would have taken weeks to months of painstaking work, but here it took days. We also discuss how Claude made some simple mistakes along the way, and how we collaborated with our machine learning researchers to address them.

Background subagents in Claude Code now use less of your usage limit.
A running subagent updates its status line every 30 seconds, and each update used to re-read its whole conversation. Now Haiku 5.5 writes it from short notes instead, so each update costs about 99% less.
