I welcomed a group of students from Caitlin Krieger's Grade 9 class at Grandview Heights School yesterday as part of their visit to the Alberta Legislature. I shared what I know about leadership with them, but they already seem well on their way to becoming tomorrow's leaders.

Each year the Christmas tree on display at the Alberta Legislature is carefully selected by Alberta Forestry staff. This year’s tree is a white spruce from the Edson Forest Area that weighs about 6,000 pounds and stands over 60 feet tall. Come see it: assembly.ab.ca/visit/events/…

Thank you to the Speaker @LegAssemblyofAB the Hon. Ric Iver for hosting the Eid al-Adha celebration in the rotunda of the Legislature yesterday afternoon. A wonderful opportunity to recognize the longstanding contributions of the Muslim community to our province and country.

I was excited to address the Constituency Employee Learning and Development Seminar at the QEII Building this morning. The attendees came from all over Alberta, and share the same passion for public service and interest in the inner workings of government.

The School at the Legislature program gives students a first-hand experience of Alberta’s system of government, often including a visit to my suite. This morning, I shared my story with a wonderful group from Soraya Hafez School and answered their questions about my duties.

I was delighted to meet two groups of bright and attentive students from across Alberta as part of School at the Legislature: an in-person session with a class from Florence Hallock School on Monday, and a virtual meetup with kids from Isabel Campbell School in Grande Prairie.

As part of the @LegAssemblyofAB’s School at the Legislature program, I hosted a wonderful group of Grade 6 students from St. Martin Catholic Elementary at my office in the Legislature Building today. I hope they enjoyed their visit as much as I enjoyed fielding their questions.

The highlight of my week is engaging with bright young students of Alberta. Today I spent time with a Gr 6 class from A. Blair McPherson School during their @LegAssemblyofAB School at the Legislature program. Their curiosity and inquisitive minds were truly delightful!

This week I have had the pleasure of hosting my good friend and former Speaker of the Legisaltive Assembly of Hokkaido, Noritoshi MURATA who was joined by Hokkaido Vice Governor, Shinichi HAMASAKA, elected officials, senior government officials, and Hokkaido Museum curator Koh KUBOMI.
Hokkadio has been Alberta's official sister province since 1980 and over the last 44 years the relationship with Hokkaido has grown to include high school student exchange programs, post-secondary collaborations, and museum partnerships including a Friendship Agreement between The Royal Alberta Museum and the Hokkaido Museum.
I look forward celebrating our 45th Anniversary as sister provinces next year!

Is there anything better than a crisp fall day at the Alberta Legislature grounds? 🍁
The golden leaves, that perfect autumn breeze, and a stroll with this view… Edmonton really knows how to show off in the fall. 🍂

I was terribly saddened to hear of the passing of the distinguished and celebrated artist and friend of the Legislature, Alex Janvier. The @LegAssemblyofAB is home to what I consider his most impressive work, Sunrise and Sunset which were permanently installed in the Legislative Assembly Chamber in 2019. The pair of paintings continue to serve all Members of the Assembly as a reminder to honour our past while being focused on making positive change for the future. #ableg
Renowned artist Alex Janvier has died at the age of 89.

Today is the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. It was the largest seaborne invasion in history and marked a turning point in World War II.
According to the Legislature Library at least two MLAs where involved in D-Day.
Member Albert Ludwig (MLA from 1959-75) served as an air force bombardier. On D-Day his plane was shot down by a German fighter, and he survived by parachuting to safety.
Member Raymond Reierson (MLA from 1952-71) served as an Artillery Officer with the 3rd Division, 13th Field Regiment and arrived on Juno Beach as a reinforcement seven days after D-Day. In 2014 Raymond was awarded France's highest decoration the Legion d'Honneur.
