Spurs 2026/2027 (mini tread)
Fresh off a Finals appearance the Spurs has the necessary experience chemistry, and film to take that next step and win an NBA championship They've already experienced the intensity of the Finals and understand what it takes to compete against good teams and now with a full offseason and regular season ahead they had a much clearer understanding of what needs to improve
With another year of development Victor Wembanyama, Dylan Harper and Stephon castle continues to make massive strides in development, Wembanyama continues to take that next step into a mvp caliber player, while Harper and Castle gain valuable experience, improve their decision making, shooting and becoming more & more comfortable alongside each other.
Additionally, bounce back seasons from De'Aaron Fox and Keldon Johnson, Fox with a full offseason to recover is slowly gaining back his athleticism , accepting the role of a veteran PG who is capable of creating his own shot, attacking the basket, taking over games when needed and assisting teammates . Meanwhile, Keldon can bring energy and makes winning plays
The Spurs have also improved their roster with the additions of Tarris Reed Jr and Tobias Harris, Reed brings much needed size, rebounding, and physicality to the center position, while Harris provides a 6’8” forward who can create his own offense, score when the team needs a bailout, and contribute on the glass.
Most importantly, both additions help take pressure off Wembanyama, Having reliable frontcourt options allows San Antonio to manage his workload, preserve his energy and keep him fresher for the fourth quarter and the deeper stages of the playoffs.

4. A strong balance of youth and experience
Fox and Harris bring veteran experience, while Wembanyama, Castle, Harper and Bryant represent the team's developing core. Vassell, Champagnie and Keldon provide valuable supporting production.
The biggest playoff advantage: lineup flexibility
The biggest advantage of this Spurs rotation is its lineup flexibility. San Antonio wouldn't have to rely on one specific style of basketball throughout a playoff series. They could adjust depending on the opponent, whether they need more shooting, defense, size, rebounding or offensive creation.
Offensively, the Spurs could run Fox, Harper, Castle, Vassell and Wembanyama. This would give them three capable ball-handlers who can attack the defense in different ways, with Vassell providing additional shooting and Wemby creating mismatches inside and outside. Opponents wouldn't be able to focus all their defensive attention on Fox because Harper and Castle could also create their own opportunities.
If the Spurs needed more shooting, they could bring in Champagnie and Harris alongside Fox, Vassell and Wemby. This would give Wemby more room to operate because opponents would have to respect the perimeter threats. It would also make it harder for defenses to constantly collapse into the paint or send extra help toward Fox and Wemby.
Defensively, they could use Fox, Castle, Carter Bryant, Harris and Wemby. Castle and Bryant would provide additional perimeter defense, Harris would give them more size at forward, and Wemby would remain the primary rim protector. This would allow San Antonio to put more pressure on opposing players without relying entirely on Wemby to clean up every defensive mistake.
They also have the option of going bigger and more physical with Fox, Castle, Keldon Johnson, Harris and Tarris Reed Jr. That lineup could help against teams with strong frontcourts by adding rebounding, physicality and size. Reed would provide traditional center minutes while Harris and Keldon would give the Spurs more strength at the forward positions.
Another major advantage is their ability to stagger their playmakers. When Fox sits, Harper and Castle can take over more of the offensive responsibility. When Harper sits, Fox and Castle can run the offense. When Castle sits, Fox and Harper can handle the playmaking. This means the Spurs wouldn't have to depend on one player to generate offense every time they're on the court.
