A court just upheld a partial block on Idaho’s abortion travel ban! We've been challenging this law since July 2023 alongside @stoelrives & the Lawyering Project. Together, we represent 3 brave plaintiffs: attorney Lourdes Matsumoto, @nwaafund, & the Indigenous Idaho Alliance.
ALT Case update: The Ninth Circuit Court has upheld a partial block on Idaho’s abortion travel ban.
ALT The main goal of the law is to prevent minors from getting legal abortions in other states. It makes it a felony to “recruit, harbor, or transport” a pregnant minor with the intent to conceal the abortion from the minor’s parents or guardian.
ALT In its Dec. 2 decision, the Ninth Circuit blocked the “recruitment” part of the statute. This is a significant victory. It means that Idahoans can continue to speak about abortion health care options, even to minors, as an exercise of their First Amendment rights.
ALT Unfortunately, the court did not put the rest of the abortion travel ban on hold. It’s essential that the law is blocked in its entirety, as it threatens the many young people who need help from adults who aren’t their parents.

On Tuesday, Legal Voice Washington Policy Counsel Alizeh Bhojani testified against the city of Seattle’s prostitution loitering bill.
If enacted, the ordinance would allow police to arrest people for SEEMING like sex workers. Buyers convicted of prostitution-related crimes could also be banned from a seven-mile stretch of homes, businesses, social services, and key transit routes.
None of these measures are proven to improve public safety. In fact, research shows that they increase violence against the most vulnerable members of our communities.

Last week, an Alaska court blocked a long-standing anti-abortion law! We're celebrating this win alongside @PPGNHAIK, @PPFA, @ACLUofAlaska, and @stoelrives. Together, we've been fighting the law since 2019.
Previously, Alaska law said that only licensed physicians could provide abortions. With this ruling, advanced practice clinicians can now finally provide abortions as well. These trusted professionals include physician assistants, registered nurses, and certified nurse midwives.
This ruling is especially important in a state with a physician shortage. Now that APCs can provide abortions, it will be easier for patients to get health care.

We're celebrating this win alongside Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, Hawaiʻi, Alaska, Indiana, Kentucky, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the ACLU of Alaska, and Stoel Rives. Together, we've been fighting the law since 2019.
In 2021, the Montana Legislature passed four anti-abortion laws. Together, they imposed unnecessary health care restrictions, spread misinformation, and undermined the bodily autonomy of people seeking abortions. 🧵
